Laying carpet, synthetic grass, vinyl or timber means matching the adhesive to both the floor covering and the base beneath it. This range holds carpet adhesives alongside contact, pressure sensitive, vinyl and timber flooring adhesives, plus preparation products used by flooring installers.
For carpet, choose Roberts R95 High Tack, R679 Latex Broadloom or R100 Commercial adhesive, or a pressure sensitive adhesive such as Roberts 444 or RLA 999. Adhesives for synthetic grass and for vinyl planks and tiles are also here, along with MS or SMP timber flooring adhesives. Brushable and sprayable contact adhesives suit skirting and edges, and a universal primer, skim coat, vinyl seam sealer and concrete sealer help with preparation and finishing.
Common Questions
For carpet, Roberts R100 Commercial Carpet Adhesive suits Double Bond and Direct Stick installations, and Roberts R95 High Tack Carpet Adhesive is suited to hard-to-hold carpets. For carpet tiles, Roberts 444 Pressure Sensitive Adhesive suits PVC-backed and modified composite backed tiles, and RLA 999 Pressure Sensitive Adhesive suits PVC, fibre and cushion backed tiles. With 444 and 999, letting the adhesive dry clear before laying gives a releasable bond, while laying into the wet film gives a stronger, more permanent bond.
Roberts R2000 Universal Flooring Adhesive covers PVC vinyl sheet, plank and tile, textile floorcoverings and some rubber up to 4mm, with a test recommended on rubber. RLA 265 Universal Vinyl Adhesive bonds supported and unsupported PVC vinyl. Both are suitable over underfloor heating. For sun-exposed areas such as bay windows and glass shop fronts, Roberts R280 HT Vinyl Plank and Tile Adhesive is fibre-reinforced, with a short open time of generally 5 minutes at 20°C.
RLA X3 SMP All in One Timber Flooring Adhesive bonds solid and engineered timber flooring to concrete and timber substrates, and acts as adhesive and vapour barrier only when the trowelled adhesive is flattened as the timber is pressed in. Roberts TFA MS Timber Flooring Adhesive is a permanently flexible MS adhesive for timber flooring and approved acoustic underlays on concrete, cementitious and timber substrates. For TFA on concrete, relative humidity must be tested per ASTM F2170 and kept below 85%, otherwise RLA Moisture Seal is recommended.
Roberts R6037 Synthetic Grass Carpet Adhesive and RLA RL6000 Synthetic Grass Adhesive are both all-weather, solvent-based adhesives for outdoor non-stretch, open weave polypropylene-backed synthetic grass. Neither is recommended for urethane or E.V.A.-backed carpets. R6037 bonds to cured concrete, asphalt and exterior grade wood, and is described as ideal around swimming pools and balconies. RLA RL6000 recommends a 3.2mm x 3.2mm notch. Both are flammable.
Roberts R48 Universal Primer prepares porous and non-porous substrates ahead of adhesive or levelling compound. Standard concrete gets a 1:2 primer-to-water mix, very absorbent concrete may need a second coat at 1:3, and burnished concrete or glazed tile gets a neat coat. Roberts F23 Feather Finish Skim Coat applies from a feather edge to 3mm ahead of vinyl and carpet. Roberts 420 Mediseal Concrete Sealer is not a moisture barrier or waterproof membrane.
