Common Questions

Pine Framing FAQ

What does MGP10 mean?

MGP stands for Machine Graded Pine. Each length is passed through a machine that measures its stiffness and grades it, rather than being graded by eye. MGP10 is the most common grade for residential wall framing.

Is this timber treated?

No, it is untreated. That makes it suitable for internal framing in a protected location. It should not be used in the ground, in contact with masonry that stays damp, or anywhere exposed to the weather.

What lengths can I get?

Studs are stocked at 2.4m and 2.7m, and longer lengths run from 3.0m to 6.0m in 600mm steps. Each length is priced separately, so choose the one closest to what you need to limit offcuts.

Which section should I use?

90 x 45mm is the usual choice for load bearing wall framing, while 90 x 35mm is commonly used for non load bearing internal walls. Your plans or your engineer will specify which applies.
