Description
Roberts F23 Feather Finish Skim Coat
– 15 Litre Pail containing 3 x 5kg Bags
Roberts F23 Feather is rapid drying, Respirable Silica Compliant cement
based skim smoothing compound designed to provide a smooth finish and even surface
to a variety of internal substrates prior to the application of floorcoverings. It
mixes easily with water to produce an easy to apply patching compound. It is ready
to accept most floor coverings after 20-30 minutes and allows for quick and
reliable installation under tight deadlines. Once dry it is suitable for the
application of resilient and carpet floor finishes.
FEATURES AND BENEFITS:
- Excellent coverage
- Rapid drying – floor coverings can be installed after 20-30
minutes - High adhesion strength over a range of surface including concrete,
timber, ceramic tiles and terrazzo - Can be applied from feather edge to 3mm in one coat
- Compatible with the range of Roberts Flooring Adhesives
- RCS Compliant* (Respirable Crystalline Silica)
- *Silica (Respirable Crystaline Fraction) levels are below the
concentration limit for carcinogens (0.1%) as per schedule 6 of the Model Work
Health Safety Regulations 2023.
RECOMMENDED USE:
- Preparation and smoothing of surfaces for the application of vinyls and
carpet floor finishes - Not suitable for direct stick timber flooring applications
- INTERNAL USE ONLY
SURFACE PREPARATION:
- Substrates must be dry, sound, clean, and per the relevant
National, State, and Local Building codes, including applicable Australian
Standards. - Substrates must also be free of wax, grease, oil, polishes, old
adhesive, curing compounds, high levels of moisture, and any other surface
contaminants that may affect adhesion. - If mechanical preparation is required, prepare the floor using
recommended methods such as shot blasting and diamond grinding to provide a
roughened, clean, sound, and open porous surface. - Thoroughly vacuum loose material and dust.
- The minimum subfloor temperature before commencing installation should
be 10oC - Do not use solvents or acid etching to clean the subfloor.
- For subfloors that display high moisture levels it is recommended an
RLA Moisture Barrier be applied. - If temperatures are less than 5°C or higher than 35ºC, contact the RLA
Technical department for further details.
PRIMING:
- Priming is generally not required.
- Where it is to be installed over particularly porous substrates, it is
recommended to prime surfaces using ROBERTS R48 UNIVERSAL PRIMER. - Mix one (1) part Roberts Universal Primer with two (2) parts of clean
water. - Apply evenly using a roller or brush ensuring the entire area is
covered and allowed to cure
MIXING RATIO:
- Mix 2 Parts Powder to 1 Part Water.
- For a 5kg bag add 2.5 litres of water.
- Place clean water in a clean pail and then add powder while mixing to
achieve the desired consistency. - Small quantities can be mixed by hand.
- For larger quantities, use a forced mechanical mixer with suitable
mixing paddle to produce a smoother, creamier consistency. - It is essential to ensure the powder and water are evenly mixed for 3-4
minutes and the water is dispersed to obtain a lump free mix. Do not over water as
this will promote a reduction in bond and tensile strength. - DO NOT ADD EXCESS WATER
APPLICATION:
- Apply F23 Feather in one coat from feather edge to 3mm.
- Apply the mixed compound to the prepared substrate with a trowel at the
required height adjustment or incline to obtain the required thickness. - If applying over ceramic tiles and other non-absorbent substrates it is
recommend to apply a 3mm coating to ensure the adhesive can wet out correctly. - The mixed quantity must be used within 10 minutes at a temperature
of 23°C
SETTING TIMES:
- Feather will harden after approximately 20minutes and can be walked on
after this time. - The levelling coat will be ready to receive vinyl and carpet floor
coverings fixed with adhesives after 30 minutes - Note:
- Setting times based on normal ambient temperatures of 23°C and 50% RH.
- Setting times may vary depending on temperature and humidity
COVERAGE:
- 10m² per 5kg bag at 1mm thick
Clean Up:
- Clean tools immediately after use with water
SHELF LIFE/STORAGE:
- 12 months when stored in original unopened packaging stored in a dry
area off the ground
PACKAGING:
- 15kg (3 x 5kg bags in plastic pail)
SAFETY AND HANDLING:
- For information and advice on the safe handling, first aid, storage
and disposal of chemical products, users must refer to the most recent Safety Data
Sheet (SDS) containing physical, ecological, toxicological and other safety-related
data.
NOTES AND PRECAUTIONS:
- Drying times are extended when applied in cold ambient
temperatures - Do not allow Roberts F23 to come into contact with water during or
after the curing process. - Do not apply to substrates subject to rising dampness.
- Do not apply over expansion joints as reflective cracking may occur.
- Not suitable for direct stick timber flooring application.
- INTERNAL USE ONLY
