Choosing between a releasable bond for future flexibility and a stronger permanent bond for maximum hold is a genuine option with RLA 999, suiting PVC, fibre and cushion-backed carpet tiles as well as reinforced VCT.

Description

RLA 999 Pressure Sensitive Adhesive is a solvent-free adhesive built for a genuinely wide range of resilient and carpet flooring types — PVC backed, fibre backed and cushion backed carpet tiles, reinforced VCT, and loose lay vinyl planks — rather than being limited to a single flooring category. Its 85% RH concrete tolerance, tested to ASTM F2170, and pH tolerance up to 10.0 give it real flexibility on newer or less-cured slabs.

As with the rest of the pressure-sensitive adhesive range, dry-mode application (letting the adhesive dry and turn clear before laying) gives a releasable bond suited to commercial floors that may need occasional tile replacement, while laying into the wet film before it fully dries creates a stronger, more permanent bond instead.

The choice between a releasable, dry-mode bond and a stronger permanent wet-film bond gives genuine installation flexibility with RLA 999 — a releasable bond suits commercial spaces wanting the option to lift and relay carpet tiles later for maintenance or reconfiguration, while a permanent bond suits areas needing maximum long-term hold. Its 85% RH concrete tolerance and anti-microbial formulation make it a practical choice for a wide range of subfloor conditions without needing a separate moisture barrier in most cases.

Where to Use

  • PVC-backed, fibre-backed and cushion-backed carpet tiles
  • Reinforced Vinyl Composition (VCT) tiles
  • Vinyl planks with embossed backing and loose lay vinyl planks
  • Double-bond underlays to substrate

How to Apply

  1. Prepare the substrate — dry, smooth, sound and clean, mechanically prepared if required.
  2. Prime if needed — highly porous subfloors should be primed with RLA PU95 first.
  3. Spread the adhesive — select the correct trowel or roller for the specific flooring type.
  4. Choose the bond type — dry mode for a releasable bond, or lay into the wet film for a stronger bond.
  5. Roll the installation — roll in both directions with the recommended roller weight.

Important Notes

  • Uneven concrete subfloors should be treated with the Roberts and RLA TruLevel range of levelling compounds first.
  • Internal use only; don’t apply in direct sunlight.
  • Clean tools with warm soapy water; use a suitable solvent cleaner for dried adhesive.
