Description
Roberts R95 High Tack Carpet Adhesive is a water-based adhesive built for double slab bond and direct-stick carpet installations, with quick grab and excellent re-bonding characteristics specifically suited to hard-to-hold carpets that resist adhesion more than standard backings. Its 85% RH tolerance on concrete substrates reduces the wait for a newer slab to dry before installation can begin.
The temperature-dependent grab behaviour matters on real jobs: above 15°C, a strong tack develops quickly enough for carpet or underlay to be lowered almost immediately, while in colder conditions the adhesive needs to be left open until tack and grab properly develop before laying. Checking for adhesive transfer to the carpet backing confirms a successful bond rather than assuming it from application alone.
The ‘hard-to-hold’ carpets R95 is built for are typically backings or fibre types that resist a normal adhesive’s grip during and after installation — its strong tacky film and excellent re-bonding characteristics are specifically engineered to hold those trickier carpets securely rather than relying purely on initial tack. Its tolerance of concrete substrates up to 85% moisture content also gives real flexibility on slabs that haven’t fully cured to a lower moisture reading, without needing a separate moisture barrier in many cases.

Where to Use
- Double slab bond underlay to subfloor, and carpet to slab underlay
- Hessian back, tufted back, most backed woven carpets
- Woven polypropylene and jute-sided latex foam laminated slab underlays
- Hard-to-hold carpets specifically
How to Apply
- Prepare the substrate — must be absorbent, dry, smooth, sound and clean, mechanically prepared if required.
- Prime if needed — highly absorbent concrete should be primed with Roberts R48 Universal Primer first.
- Select the correct trowel — V1 for underlay to subfloor, V2 for hessian-backed carpet, V3 for Action Bac or heavily textured backings.
- Lay into the adhesive — above 15°C, lower carpet quickly once tack develops; in cooler conditions, allow more open time first.
- Roll and restrict traffic — roll with a 25-35kg roller; avoid heavy traffic for 24 hours.
Important Notes
- For temperatures below 5°C or above 35°C, contact RLA Technical for guidance.
- Don’t allow the adhesive to skin over or dry before the floorcovering is installed into the wet film.
- Internal use only; do not apply in direct sunlight or on substrates with rising dampness.
