Before tiles, vinyl or floating boards go down, the subfloor often needs a flat, stable layer to lay onto. This category covers sheet underlays such as hardboard, plywood and ceramic tile underlay boards, plus thin acoustic and moisture underlays for floating floors.
For tiling over timber floors, ceramic tile underlay sheets come in 1800 x 1200 and 1800 x 900 sizes from BGC and Hume. Hardboard and HPF underlay sheets in 5mm and 5.5mm, and 5.5mm ePLY plywood, give a smooth base for vinyl and other thin coverings.
