Description
RLA Brushable Contact Adhesive is a high-quality, high solids, brushable-grade solvent-based contact cement offering rapid drying, high bond strength and genuinely good ageing and heat resistance. Its heat resistance is a specific point of difference — similar contact adhesives can be adversely affected by plasticiser migration from PVC products over time, while this formulation is engineered to resist that failure mode.
Its brushable application format suits a wide range of substrates: vinyls, PVC skirtings and extrusions, cover strips, plastic, metal tread nosings, decorative laminates, MDF, wood, wood veneers, timber, plasterboard and concrete. That breadth makes it a genuinely versatile bonding solution across most common building substrates rather than being limited to a single material type.
Both bonding surfaces need to be coated evenly and allowed to dry to touch-dry — a minimum of 5-10 minutes at 20°C — before being joined within 30 minutes of application. Priming is generally only required on highly porous subfloors, using RLA PU95 or RLA Universal Primer where needed. It is not recommended for exterior application and should be reserved for interior bonding work.
Because it’s engineered specifically to resist the plasticiser migration that can compromise a lesser contact adhesive over time, RLA Brushable Contact Adhesive holds up genuinely well in applications like metal tread nosings and PVC skirtings, where ongoing contact with plasticised materials would otherwise be a slow-developing failure risk. Its brush, roller or notched trowel application flexibility also suits both small trim jobs and larger surface areas.

Where to Use

How to Apply
- Prepare surfaces — dry, smooth, sound, clean and free of wax, grease and old adhesive.
- Prime if required — only generally needed on highly porous subfloors.
- Apply adhesive liberally — with a brush, roller or notched trowel to both surfaces.
- Allow to touch-dry — a minimum of 5-10 minutes at 20°C.
- Join within 30 minutes — pressing surfaces together firmly.
