Description
Roberts 420 Mediseal Concrete Sealer
– 15 Litres
Roberts Medi-Seal is a water based modified acrylic compound. It has a blue appearance and is used for sealing concrete and other cementitious substrates. This cures to form a clean and impervious film.
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:
- ROBERTS 420 MEDI SEAL is solvent free, low odour,
antimicrobial, low VOC, water-based modified acrylic
compound designed for sealing concrete and other
cementitious substrates to form a clear and impervious
film. - Roberts 420 Medi Seal can tolerate relative humidity
reading up to 95% tested with the In- Situ Probe method or 90% relative humidity tested with surface mounted hood test method, and can tolerate alkalinity readings up to pH level of 12.0
IMPORTANT NOTE:
-
Roberts 420 Medi Seal is not a Moisture Barrier or a Water
Proof Membrane and is not guaranteed against hydrostatic
pressure or rising damp.
While moisture testing may indicate acceptable
moisture ranges for application of Medi Seal, it may
not indicate whether Hydrostatic Pressure is present.
If Hydrostatic Pressure is evident or a moisture barrier is
required we recommend the use of RLA MOISTURE SEAL.
FEATURES:
- Installer Friendly
- Building Green Credits
- Green Star Compliant
- High RH Resistant
- Solvent Free
- LOW VOC Emission
- Anti-microbial Formulation
- Low Odour
- Australian Made
ADVANTAGES AND USES:
- Displays excellent long term resistance to urine, water,
blood and most other common chemicals. - Complies with ATSM D1308-02 for the resistance to
urine - Pre mixed ready to use in convenient 15lt pail
- One coat application (depending on substrate
absorbency) - Ideal for sealing concrete floors in Health Care and Age
Care Facilities before the application of Pressure Sensitive Carpet Adhesives - Can tolerate high relative humidity and pH readings in
concrete substrates - A Floor Sealer for Green Substrates before the
application of Pressure Sensitive and Carpet Adhesives - A Green Slab Sealer / Primer (Two Coats) to suspended
concrete substrates before the application of RLA Cementitious products (provided moisture levels are falling)
SURFACE PREPARATION:
- To be in accordance with the current Australian Standard “Floor Coverings – 1884-2021 Resilient Sheet & Tiles – Laying & Maintenance Practices” or Australian Standard 2455.2.2019 “Textile Floor Coverings – Installation Practice”.
- All surfaces to be bonded to should be absorbent, dry,
smooth, sound and clean. Subfloors should be free from wax, grease, paints, previously used adhesive, hydrostatic pressure, polishes, PVC base membranes, laitance (being the dusty unstable topping of poorly or insufficiently cured concrete) and any other impurities or contaminants that may affect adhesion. - The minimum subfloor temperature before commencing
installation should be 10oC - All concrete substrate floors should be tested for moisture content according to the relevant Australian Standards prior to installation.
- Indentations and uneven concrete subfloors should be
treated with the Roberts range of levelling compound and be in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations - Subfloors must be absorbent/ porous surface to ensure that the sealer can key into the substrate satisfactorily.
- Burnished or non-absorbent Concrete subfloors must be mechanically prepared by way of grinding, shot blasting, or sanding to achieve a roughened, absorbent/ porous surface that the sealer can key into satisfactorily.
- Any previous coatings or curing compounds must be removed as substrate must be porous.
- It is recommended a test area must be carried out on the surface that has been prepared to ensure suitable floor preparation has occurred and adhesion of the Medi Seal to the substrate is acceptable
NOTE
APPLICATION:
Roberts 420 Medi Seal is to be used as follows:
- Floor must be absorbent.
- If the floor is not absorbent do not proceed with the installation.
- Apply one even coat with a long nap roller with a pile height of no less than 10mm.
- Care and consideration should be taken to ensure the material is applied to the entire surface of the concrete substrate and no pin holing occurs.
- If pin Holing does occur, a second coat is recommended.
- For highly absorbent floors a second coat may be required, allowing a minimum of five hours between coats.
- Allow to dry for a minimum of 24 hours to the appearance of a dry blue film
- For priming for the application of Levelling Compounds two coats of Roberts 420 Medi Seal is recommended.
- Application of RLA or Roberts Levelling Compound can be applied after a minimum 24 hours from initial application of Roberts 420 Medi Seal
- Application of Levelling compound should not exceed 60 hours after application
- Do not allow any traffic on sealer for minimum 24 hours.
- Care and consideration should be taken to ensure sealant coating is not damaged during this time.
- Sealant film is not to be penetrated or its integrity compromised at any time.
- For the installation of Carpet Tiles and Hessian Backed Carpets, application of Carpet and Pressure Sensitive Adhesives can be performed after a minimum 24 hours from initial application of Roberts 420 Medi Seal
RECOMMENDED ADHESIVES:
- For PVC Backed Carpet Tiles, Roberts 656 Universal Pressure Sensitive Adhesive.
- For Hessian Backed Carpets (Breathable Carpets)
Roberts 100, Roberts 85 or Roberts 95 Wet Stick Carpet Adhesives - As Roberts Medi Seal is a floor sealer, when using ‘wet stick’ adhesives, water from the adhesive emulsion cannot dissipate into the subfloor.
Therefore a short tack up time is recommended to allow evaporation and reduce the risk of carpet shrinkage. - Please note: Installation of Vinyl, Vinyl Planks and Impervious Backed Broadloom Carpets directly onto Roberts Medi Seal is Not Recommended.
- Application of Adhesives as per RLA Product Data Sheets
COVERAGE:
- Approximately 7 to 8m2 per litre.
- Spread rates may vary depending on substrate absorbency.
CLEAN UP:
- Clean tools immediately after use with water.
SHELF LIFE/STORAGE:
- 12 months stored in original unopened packaging
- Best stored in a dry area at room temperature
- Keep off cold floors and out of direct sunlight
PACKAGING:
- 15 Litre Containers
NOTES AND PRECAUTIONS:
- Not recommended for use as a Moisture Barrier or Water
Proofing Membrane - Do not apply onto substrates were hydrostatic pressure
or rising damp is present. - Do not apply onto substrates below 10°C or above 35°C.
- Do not apply in direct sunlight.
- For Internal use only.
- Not suitable for particle board floors
- Do not apply over expansion joints
- Cannot be used if chemical or solvent cleaners have
been used to prepare floors - Not to be used as a curing compound
SAFETY AND HANDLING:
- For information and advice on the safe handling, first aid, storage and disposal of chemical products, users must refer to the most recent Safety Data Sheet (SDS) containing physical, ecological, toxicological and other safety-related data.
