Linear drains

Lauxes grates come in lengths up to 5.6m and are trimmed to fit on site, with joiners for longer runs.

Tile insert

Drains that blend in

Tile insert grates hold a strip of the same tile as your floor, so the drain blends into the finished surface.

Square floor wastes from 86mm to 115mm in chrome, matt black, gold, brushed gold and satin nickel.

About Drainage Products

A floor drain collects water from a wet or outdoor floor and carries it into the waste pipe below. The floor around it is laid with a fall, a gentle slope, so water runs to the drain instead of pooling.

There are two main types. Long drains, also called linear or channel drains, collect water along a straight line, so the floor only needs to slope one way. They suit walk-in showers, balconies, pool surrounds and driveways. Every long drain here is from Lauxes. The range covers NXT linear floor grates, the Standard Floor Grate SFG, and STI slimline and TIP35 tile insert grates that hold a strip of your floor tile. Storm water cover grates replace the top on an existing driveway or alfresco channel. Lauxes grates can be cut to length on site, with end caps, 90 and 180 degree joiners, waste outlets and matching hole saws.

Square drains sit at a single low point, with the floor graded towards them from all sides. Grated styles run from 86x86mm to 103x103mm in chrome and matt black, with 110x110mm drains in chrome, gold and matt black. Tile-in styles take a piece of the floor tile and come in 100x100mm in chrome and matt black, or 115x115mm in brushed gold and satin nickel.

Common Questions

Drainage Products FAQ

Should I use a linear drain or a square drain?

A square drain sits at one low point, so the floor is graded towards it from all sides. A linear drain collects water along a straight line, so the floor only needs to fall in one direction, towards a wall or doorway. Lauxes notes that linear drains let you build a shower without a step-up at the entry. Square drains suit bathrooms, laundries and outdoor areas with a single low point.

What is a tile insert drain?

A tile insert drain has a tray on top that holds a strip of the same tile as the surrounding floor, so the drain blends in instead of showing as a metal strip. Lauxes STI21 and STI26 are slimline versions, TIP35 takes tiles up to 20mm thick, and the SWT128 storm water tile insert takes tiles up to 13mm. Tile-in square drains do the same job at a single point.

How long can a Lauxes grate be?

NXT, STI, TIP35 and Standard Floor Grate SFG models come in lengths from 0.6m to 5.6m and are cut to size on site. The SW109 and SW128 storm water covers go up to 3.0m. For longer runs, such as around a pool, 90 and 180 degree joiners connect lengths together. Lauxes recommends cutting with a compound mitre saw fitted with a multi-material blade of 80 teeth or more.

What size waste outlet do I need?

Lauxes waste outlets come in 40mm, 50mm, 72mm and 80mm. Lauxes recommends 80mm, but the right size depends on your plumbing, whether the drain is indoors or outdoors and how much rain it faces. Check with your plumber that the size meets your state or territory requirements, and use the matching Lauxes hole saw to cut the outlet hole in the grate.

What is fall, and why does it matter for a drain?

Fall is the gentle slope built into a floor so water runs to the drain. Lauxes explains that water flowing down the fall pushes water through the waste, leaving no more than 0.5mm in the tray once the water is turned off. The fall your floor needs depends on the area and local plumbing and building rules, so confirm it with your tiler or plumber before the floor is laid.
