Ardex MRF Moisture Resistant Finish

ARDEX MRF is a moisture-resistant, cement based smoothing compound
designed to provide a smooth, permanent finish to various internal substrates
before installing waterproof membranes, moisture barriers, and floorcoverings such
as vinyl, carpet and ceramic tile.
ARDEX MRF allows installing most membranes and floorcoverings in as little
as 30 minutes over concrete, wood, ceramic and quarry tile, all without the need
for priming or additives.
ARDEX MRF mixes with water to provide a smooth, creamy mortar for easy
application.
SURFACE PREPARATION
Concrete floors must be structurally sound, clean and free of dirt, dust, oil,
curing and sealing compounds and any other surface contaminant which may act as a
bond breaker. Where required, mechanically clean the floor using recommended
preparation methods such as shot blasting, diamond grinding, shaving or other
acceptable methods to a suitable surface. Acid etching, solvents or sweeping
compounds are not acceptable methods for preparation. Subfloor temperatures must be
a minimum of 10°C.
INSTALLATION
ARDEX MRF is easily applied to any prepared surface using a steel trowel. Apply
sufficient pressure to fill all defects and to feather the product into the
subfloor surface. It is not necessary to leave a minimum thickness on the
substrate. Use the least amount possible to obtain the desired smoothness.
MOISTURE BARRIERS AND MEMBRANES
ARDEX MRF can be used to smooth irregularities from the concrete prior to the
installation of moisture barriers and waterproof membranes.
ARDEX MRF can be applied over ARDEX WPM 002, WPM 130, and WPM 155 Rapid Plus for
resilient flooring and tiling applications.
THICKNESS
ARDEX MRF can be applied from a true feather edge up to 6mm when applied on
internal and external concrete, and up to 3mm for internal timber applications.
POT LIFE
Approximately 15 minutes at 23°C. Pot life will be extended in cooler conditions
and shortened in warmer conditions. Mix only the amount that will be used
immediately to avoid waste.
INSTALLATION OF FLOORING
As soon as the ARDEX MRF can be walked on without damaging the surface (from 30
minutes), floorcoverings such as vinyl, carpet and ceramic tile can be installed.
COVERAGE
A 10kg unit will cover 9m2 at 1mm thickness. When skim coating over concrete,
coverages up to 30m2 (at 0.3mm) can be achieved. Due to the unique formulation of
ARDEX MRF and the varying thickness that this product is applied, both coverage and
drying time is difficult to specify and is an estimate only.
PAY ATTENTION TO THE FOLLOWING
• ARDEX MRF is not suitable for applications with full immersion. For example:
swimming pools or ponds.
• Before any substrate preparation, installation or finishing methods relating to
ARDEX product are undertaken, please be aware of any potential risks and use
appropriate PPE (personal protective equipment). This may involve contacting
substrate manufacturers for Safety Data Sheets.
SAFETY DATA
- This product may cause irritation and an allergic reaction to the skin.
- It may cause serious eye damage, irritation to the respiratory system and may cause cancer.
- In case of contact with the eyes rinse with running water (15 mins) including removal of contaminated clothing.
- Wear protective gloves, clothing, eye and face protection. Avoid inhaling dust/fume/gas/mist/vapours/spray. Ensure adequate ventilation during mixing and application.
- Store locked up.
- Check with your local Council regarding the disposal of contents.
- Keep out of the reach of children.
