About Non Slip Treatments
A non-slip treatment is a coating or etching product applied to an existing hard surface to add grip, so a slippery tile, stone, concrete surface or step can be made safer without replacing it. In Australia, slip resistance is usually described with P ratings under AS 4586, from P0 for a very slippery surface to P5 for very high slip resistance, measured with a wet pendulum test.
Stellmann Non-Slip Clear PRO is a clear, water-based two-pack polyurethane coating, CSIRO tested to AS 4586. It is sold as separate P3, P4 and P5 products, and the P5 version carries an engineered texture, so check which rating your floor needs. It comes as a DIY kit or a trades pack and goes on over Stellmann Clear Primer, while Stellmann Stair Nosing Coating paints a contrasting nosing strip straight onto step edges. Dy-Mark TreadRite is a textured acrylic coating for ramps, walkways, steps and entrances. Dy-Mark has tested it for compliance with AS 4586:2013 at classification P5, but it is not for areas around salt water or continuous immersion.
SlipSolve Non Slip Treatment works differently, etching into ceramic, concrete, stone and similar surfaces without leaving a visible film. Whatever you choose, test a small area first.

What do P ratings mean?
P ratings come from the wet pendulum test in AS 4586 and run from P0, very slippery, to P5, very high slip resistance. Stellmann’s guidance links P3 to residential showers, bathrooms and kitchens, P4 to outdoor walkways, external ramps and communal shower rooms, and P5 to commercial kitchens and steeper external ramps. Confirm what your area needs with your builder or specifier.
Will a non-slip coating change how my floor looks?
It depends on the product. Stellmann says Non-Slip Clear PRO protects against slips without altering the appearance of the floor, and SlipSolve leaves no visible film. Dy-Mark TreadRite dries to a matt textured grit finish, stocked here in clear, black and yellow, and Dy-Mark says it is not suitable for decorative applications, so it suits steps, ramps and workshops. Always try a test patch.
How do I prepare a surface before treating it?
Clean off dirt, grease and loose material first. Stellmann’s system starts with a thin coat of Stellmann Clear Primer. For TreadRite, Dy-Mark asks for new concrete to cure for 4 to 6 weeks, and for smooth or glossy surfaces to be sanded to create a profile. Apply it only when the air and surface are between 10°C and 40°C.
