About Graffiti Protection
Graffiti protection is a clear coating applied to a clean wall ahead of time, so that later graffiti does not permanently deface the surface and clean-ups are simpler. It suits walls, fences and shopfronts in public view, where scrubbing off tags again and again can wear down paint, render and masonry.
Environex Graffiti Shield F is the product in this category. Environex describes it as a water based acrylate polymer system with a low gloss, almost invisible finish. It helps prevent permanent defacement of building surfaces from aerosol spray cans and felt pens. It also acts against moisture and airborne pollutants getting into masonry and concrete, and contains a film biocide to reduce algae build-up. Environex says the surface must be fully saturated during application, and the product information states that, properly applied, it should protect for up to 5 years before recoating.
Before coating, remove existing graffiti, clean the surface and let it dry. Chemforce GR2 Graffiti Remover is made for masonry, stone and uncoated surfaces. Then test a small, out of the way area to check the finish before treating the whole wall.

The product information says that, properly applied, Graffiti Shield F should protect for up to 5 years before it needs recoating. Weather exposure, how often the wall is cleaned and the type of surface all play a part, so check treated walls after each clean-up and recoat as needed.
What surfaces can Graffiti Shield F be used on?
Environex describes it for building surfaces, and in particular for protecting masonry and concrete against moisture and airborne pollutants. For painted, rendered or very smooth surfaces, confirm suitability with us before you start, and trial a small, hidden area to check that the finish looks right.
Should I remove existing graffiti first?
Yes. The coating protects against future graffiti, so remove existing marks, then clean and dry the wall first. Chemforce GR2 Graffiti Remover is made for masonry, stone and uncoated surfaces, but it strips most paints and coatings, so don’t use it on painted, coated or anodised surfaces. Spot test before applying.
How is graffiti removed from a coated wall?
Environex makes removers for this, sold as Graffiti Shield 400 and 500. Work the remover in with a stiff bristle brush, then flush the wall with water and detergent mixed about ten to one. A recoat is sometimes advised afterwards, so check the treated area once it dries and reapply the coating where it has been stripped back.
