Description
Trimtec Underlay is a hardboard product manufactured to provide a flat, uniform, indent-resistant base for resilient sheet or tile floor coverings over strip timber, particleboard, plywood or concrete substrates. Being pre-conditioned to the Australian climate and 100% Australian made and owned means it’s unlikely to be adversely affected by stability issues that can arise with imported board products not acclimatised to local humidity and temperature ranges.
Its high resistance to indentation from point loads — table legs, chairs, stools, bookcases, wall units and high heel shoes — is a genuine practical benefit under a resilient sheet floor covering, where a softer underlay would show every point-load mark through the finished surface over time. The smooth top surface also allows even, economical adhesive application, avoiding the wasted product that comes from an uneven or absorbent underlay surface.

Where to Use
- Over strip timber, particleboard, plywood and concrete floors
- Under resilient sheet or tile floor coverings requiring a flat, indent-resistant base
- Areas with point loads from furniture, fixtures or high heel foot traffic
How to Apply
- Prepare the substrate — ensure it is structurally sound and suitable per AS/NZ 1884-2012.
- Lay the sheets — fix using normal wood working tools and flooring installation equipment.
- Apply adhesive evenly — take advantage of the smooth surface for economical, even coverage.
- Install the floor covering — lay resilient sheet or tile flooring over the prepared underlay.
Important Notes
- Installation must comply with AS/NZ 1884-2012.
- Dimensional tolerances are ±1.0mm (length/width) and ±0.15mm (thickness) ex mill.
- Easy to work with normal wood working tools and flooring installation equipment.
Point-load indentation is a genuinely common failure mode under resilient sheet flooring that a lot of underlay products don’t test for explicitly — furniture legs, high heels and stools all concentrate weight onto a small area, and a soft or thin underlay will show that mark through the finished floor over time. Trimtec’s density and internal bond strength figures are specifically what resist that kind of localised deformation.
