VISY Guardboard is a heavy-duty, Australian-made paperboard floor and surface protection, lab-tested for tensile strength, moisture resistance, tear and burst resistance to withstand tough construction-site conditions.

Description

VISY Guardboard is a heavy-duty paperboard floor and surface protection product, backed by genuine independent testing against Australian Standards for tensile strength, moisture absorption, tear resistance and burst strength — not just marketing claims. Its top surface’s high resistance to moisture penetration means spilled liquid sits on the surface for a period before soaking through, giving real time to clean up a spill before it reaches the floor beneath.

Its excellent tensile qualities make it strong and flexible enough for easy laying and decurling straight from the roll, while its extremely high burst and tear strength are what make it genuinely suited to high-traffic construction environments rather than light domestic use. Being 100% recyclable and made in Australia gives it a real sustainability position alongside its physical performance.

Technical Specifications

Recyclability 100% recyclable

Where to Use

  • Protecting finished floors during construction and fit-out
  • High-traffic flow areas and tough site environments
  • Surfaces at risk of rough treatment during a build

How to Apply

  1. Clean the floor — remove grit and debris before laying.
  2. Roll out the Guardboard — lay across the area needing protection, taking advantage of its flexibility for easy decurling.
  3. Join adjoining sheets — overlap or tape as required for full coverage.
  4. Remove after works — lift the protection once the risk of construction-phase damage has passed.

Important Notes

  • Test results should be used as a guide only, per the manufacturer’s own testing notes.
  • This is temporary construction-phase protection, not a permanent flooring underlay.
  • 100% recyclable — dispose of responsibly once the job is complete.

Independent testing against Australian Standards is the detail that separates Guardboard from a generic protective paperboard: tensile strength, tear resistance and burst strength are all measured against defined test methods rather than described qualitatively, giving a specifier genuine figures to compare against an alternative product rather than relying on marketing language alone. Those figures give a specifier a genuine basis for comparison against an alternative protection product, rather than relying on marketing language alone when deciding what’s actually suited to a high-traffic construction environment. Because it’s a paperboard product, keeping it dry during storage and use is what preserves its rated performance — repeated wetting and drying cycles will degrade any paperboard product’s strength over time regardless of its initial test figures.

Frequently asked questions

How is Guardboard's performance tested?

Against Tensile Strength (AS 1301.448s), Moisture Absorption/Cobb (AS 1301.411s), Tear Test (AS 1301.400s) and Burst Test (AS 1301.403s) — the standard, reliable methods for assessing paperboard integrity.

How well does Guardboard resist moisture?

Its top surface has extremely high resistance to moisture penetration, allowing moisture to sit on the surface for some time before it’s absorbed through to the back — genuinely useful during spills before they’re cleaned up.

Is Guardboard reusable?

It’s built for high-traffic, tough construction environments given its excellent tear and burst strength, though as a paperboard product its lifespan will depend on the conditions and duration of use on a given job.
