A sharp internal corner traps dirt in a way food safety auditors will flag — MJ63 Retro Fit Cove Trim’s 50mm radius, sealed with Ardex ST silicone, is purpose-built to close that gap to AS4674-2004.

Description

Retro Fit Cove Trim (MJ63) is a 50mm radius aluminium finishing cove designed to be installed after flooring is already down, purpose-built for coldrooms and kitchens where AS4674-2004’s food premises hygiene requirements demand an easy-clean, ledge-free floor-to-wall junction. The 50mm radius itself is the functional detail — a sharp 90-degree corner traps dirt and grime in a way a smooth radius simply doesn’t, which is exactly the problem this profile is designed to eliminate.

Correct sealing is just as important as the profile shape: Ardex ST neutral cure silicone along both the top and bottom edges creates a continuous, uninterrupted surface into adjoining materials, removing every ledge or gap where dirt or grease could otherwise accumulate. That sealing detail, not just the cove trim itself, is what’s required to genuinely meet AS4674-2004 rather than just approximate it.

  • Any food premises requiring an easy-clean, hygienic floor-to-wall junction
  • Retrofitting a cove detail after flooring installation

How to Apply

  1. Cut to length — trim the aluminium finishing cove to the required length.
  2. Fix in place — apply MJS GF400 construction adhesive to the underside per the manufacturer’s recommendations.
  3. Seal the edges — seal along the top and bottom edges using Ardex ST neutral cure silicone, forming a continuous, uninterrupted surface.
  4. Cut and seal corners — use a mitre cutting box for accurate corner cuts, and seal all corner joins with Ardex ST neutral cure silicone.

Important Notes

  • Wear safety glasses and gloves when cutting or drilling the aluminium profile.
  • Seal every join and corner to the AS4674-2004 requirement — an unsealed gap defeats the purpose of the cove detail.
  • Use a mitre cutting box for corner cuts to ensure a clean, accurate angle.

Choosing mill finish rather than an anodised option is deliberate for this specific application: coldroom and kitchen environments involve regular washdown and exposure to cleaning chemicals, and a mill finish aluminium profile handles that environment without the risk of an anodised coating degrading or discolouring over time under repeated chemical cleaning. That durability consideration is as much a part of the specification as the 50mm radius itself. A wash-down environment forgives very little, so the finish choice is one of the details worth getting right the first time.
