About Tile Cutters
A manual tile cutter scores the tile surface with a hardened wheel, then a breaker presses down so the tile snaps along the score line. There is no dust, water or power lead, so a hand tile cutter is quick to set up for straight cuts on site or at home.
Every cutter in this range is made by Sigma in Italy. The two things to check are cutting length, which must be longer than the tile you are cutting, and the maximum tile thickness.
The Art 7F and Art 2G are compact 37cm pull cutters. Sigma rates them for tiles 3 to 15mm thick, with a 26cm diagonal cut, so they suit wall tiles, smaller floor tiles and trim pieces.
The Art 4DU cuts 103cm straight and 72.8cm on the diagonal, for tiles up to 17mm thick. The Art 4EN at 125cm and the Art 4FN at 155cm are push cutters rated to 19mm, so they handle thicker porcelain, long planks and most large floor tiles.
The KERA-CUT 8AE3 works differently. Its aluminium rail fixes to the tile with suction cups, and Sigma makes it for thin large format tiles up to 7mm thick and 332cm long.
Manual cutters make straight and diagonal cuts only. Notches, curves and holes around pipes need a different cutting method, so plan those cuts before you start.

What size tile cutter do I need?
Choose a cutter with a cutting length longer than your longest tile, and check the diagonal capacity if you cut corner to corner. Sigma lists the Art 7F and 2G at 37cm straight and 26cm diagonal, the Art 4DU at 103cm and 72.8cm, the Art 4EN at 125cm and 88.4cm, and the Art 4FN at 155cm and 109.6cm. For thin tiles longer than that, look at the KERA-CUT 8AE3.
Can a manual tile cutter cut porcelain tiles?
Yes. The Sigma cutters here are made for ceramic and porcelain tiles, provided the tile is within the cutter’s thickness and length limits. Sigma rates the Art 4DU for tiles up to 17mm thick, which covers most 10mm porcelain. Score the tile in one smooth pass, then use the breaker to snap it along the line. For thicker tiles, check the model’s rating first.
What is the thickest tile a hand tile cutter can cut?
It depends on the model. Sigma rates the Art 7F and Art 2G for tiles 3 to 15mm thick, the Art 4DU for up to 17mm, and the Art 4EN and Art 4FN for up to 19mm. The KERA-CUT 8AE3 is designed for thin large format tiles up to 7mm thick. Check your tile’s thickness before you buy, especially for outdoor porcelain pavers.
How do I cut large format tiles and thin porcelain slabs?
A standard bench cutter stops at its rail length, so very long, thin tiles need a guide system. The Sigma KERA-CUT 8AE3 has an aluminium rail that fixes to the tile with suction cups, and Sigma rates it for tiles up to 332cm long and 7mm thick. For thicker tiles up to 155cm long, the Art 4FN is the longest bench cutter in the range.
Should I use a manual tile cutter or a power tool?
A manual tile cutter is the quickest way to make straight and diagonal cuts. It makes no dust and needs no water or power, so it is easy to use indoors. Power tools are needed for notches, curves, holes and tiles thicker than the cutter’s rating, so most tile jobs use both.
