Description
SikaTile-010 Secure Prime is a ready-to-use, multi-purpose primer built around one specific problem: efflorescence. Rather than just sealing a surface, it uses crystalline technology to reduce the porosity of concrete, screeds and renders, cutting down the capillary action that carries soluble salts to the surface and causes the white efflorescence staining that can spoil an otherwise good tiling job weeks or months after installation.
Because it’s suitable for internal, external and submerged applications — including tiled pools and spas — it covers a wider range of jobs than a primer rated for dry interior use only. At a low VOC content of just 6 grams per litre, it’s also a genuinely low-emission choice for enclosed spaces during application.

Where to Use
- General purpose under-tile priming of porous substrates
- Primer for water-based waterproofing membranes
- Efflorescence prevention on concrete, screeds and renders
- Dense and steel-trowelled concrete, and cement boards including Scyon
How to Apply
- Prepare the substrate — ensure it is free from loose friable material, dust, debris, release agents, curing compounds, grease and sealers.
- Mechanically prepare contaminated substrates — expose at least 80% of the substrate where contamination is present.
- Apply the primer — use ready to use, without mixing or dilution.
- Allow to cure — 25-40 minutes depending on climate, substrate porosity and application technique.
Important Notes
- Store in dry, cool conditions out of direct sunlight; do not allow the product to freeze.
- Suitable substrates include concrete, cement boards, plasterboard, glass-reinforced concrete, cement-based screeds and Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC).
- Green Star VOC Content Test Certified.
Efflorescence forms when soluble salts within a substrate travel to the surface as moisture migrates outward and evaporates, leaving a white crystalline residue behind — a problem that can appear well after tiling is finished and grout has cured, since it’s driven by the substrate underneath rather than anything visible on the surface at installation time. By reducing substrate porosity through crystalline technology, SikaTile-010 Secure Prime cuts down that moisture migration at the source, which is a meaningfully different approach from a sealer that only treats the visible surface after efflorescence has already appeared.
