Description
Mapei Eco Prim Grip is a grey bonding primer for jobs where the surface is too smooth, or too uneven in absorption, for render, a smoothing compound or tile adhesive to key to directly. Made by Mapei, it dries to a rough keying surface and is used internally and externally on floors and walls.
The data sheet describes it as a solvent-free primer of synthetic resin in water dispersion and selected inert materials. It is a ready-to-use grey latex, applied by roller or brush, that reduces and evens out water absorption on absorbent surfaces. It is also listed as extremely low in emission of volatile organic compounds, with an EMICODE rating of EC1 Plus.

Where to Use
Internal and external floors and walls. The data sheet gives these examples:
- Improving the bond of cement, gypsum and lime-based plasters on concrete, brickwork, vibro-compressed concrete blocks, lightweight blocks and gypsum
- Applying render on concrete and brickwork
- Applying smoothing and levelling compounds on old ceramic, terrazzo and natural stone floors
- Improving the bond of adhesives for ceramics on non-absorbent surfaces
- Laying ceramic and natural stone floors directly on top of old ceramic floors
How to Apply
- Prepare the substrate. It must be clean, dry, well-cured and free from oil, grease, cement laitance and loose parts. There is no need to wet the surface first.
- Check conditions. Apply at temperatures between 5 degrees C and 35 degrees C. The product is ready to use, so do not dilute it.
- Apply. Apply to the substrate with a roller or brush at 0.20 to 0.30 kg/m2, depending on the absorption of the substrate.
- Wait. Let it dry before applying render or the smoothing or levelling compound. The data sheet gives a minimum of 15 to 60 minutes according to conditions and absorption.
- Clean up. While still fresh, remove it from floors, walls and tools with water. Once dry, it must be removed with alcohol or Pulicol 2000.
Important Notes
- Do not use in the presence of rising damp or rising humidity, or on continuously immersed surfaces.
- Do not use as adhesion promoter for adhesives and levelling compounds on screeds and power-trowelled concrete. Use Eco Prim T in such cases.
- The data sheet states the product is not considered dangerous under current classification regulations for mixtures. Wear protective gloves and goggles and take the usual precautions for handling chemicals.
- Described in the data sheet as non-flammable.
- Store in the original, sealed packaging; stable for at least 12 months under normal conditions.
- Product for professional use.
