Description
Mapei Keraflex Maxi S1 Zero is a grey cementitious tile adhesive aimed at large-size porcelain tiles and stable natural stone, where the job calls for a long working window and a mortar that does not let tiles slide on a wall. It is a C2TES1 class adhesive: cementitious, improved, non-slip, extended open time and deformable. Made by Mapei.
It is mixed with water to a low viscosity mortar that is still highly thixotropic, so tiles can be bonded on vertical surfaces working from the top down without spacers. The data sheet states it is certified EC1 Plus by the German association GEV for very low emission.

Where to Use
Per the data sheet, for internal and external work:
- All types and sizes of ceramic tile, including porcelain, klinker and terracotta, at adhesive thicknesses up to 15 mm on irregular substrates
- Mosaics, including in swimming pools, and tiles in swimming pools and tanks
- Heated floors, self-levelling compounds, engineered screeds and well-cured concrete
- Overlaying existing ceramic and stone floors after priming with Eco Prim Grip
How to Apply
- Prepare the substrate. It must be cured, sufficiently dry, strong and free of crumbling areas and traces of grease, oil, varnish or wax. In good weather, render needs at least one week of drying per cm of thickness and cementitious screeds at least 14 days, unless made with special Mapei screed binders.
- Mix. Use approximately 5.8 to 6.2 litres of water per 20 kg bag. Blend to a lump-free mix, stand about 5 minutes, then blend again.
- Spread. Apply a thin layer with the smooth side of the spreader, then immediately a further layer to the thickness required with a notched spreader suited to the tile. Back-butter for exterior work, large format tiles, heated floors, heavy loads, pools and tanks.
- Bond the tiles. Press down firmly. Check that the adhesive has not skinned. If it has, re-run the notched trowel, or remove and replace it if it has started to set. Do not wet a skinned surface.
- Grout and protect. Grout after 4 to 8 hours on walls and 24 hours on floors. Protect from water and rain for at least 24 hours, and from freezing weather and direct sunlight for at least 5 to 7 days.
Important Notes
- Do not use on insufficiently cured concrete, wood or wooden conglomerates, or metal, rubber, PVC and linoleum surfaces.
- Do not use with marble and natural stone slabs subject to efflorescence, staining or movement caused by dampness.
- The data sheet says not to use it when floors need to be put back into service quickly. Open time may reduce to only a few minutes in direct sunlight, dry wind, high temperatures or on particularly absorbent substrates.
- The data sheet states this product is part of the CO2 Fully Offset in the Entire Life Cycle line, with 2024 life cycle emissions offset through certified carbon credits.
