Pool coping takes a genuine hammering from chlorine, salt and constant wetting-and-drying cycles — Synergy is built specifically for that environment, consolidating porous masonry while sealing it against exactly the kind of attack a pool surround sees daily.

Description

Synergy is a combination consolidator and sealer, developed and laboratory tested against Australian Standards, that both hardens porous or friable masonry and protects it from permanent staining. That dual action — consolidating the substrate itself, not just sealing the surface — sets it apart from a sealer-only product, particularly on masonry that’s genuinely deteriorating or crumbly.

Being specifically developed for use around swimming pools, and backed by a 2-year warranty against salt attack, reflects one of the toughest environments masonry sealers face: chlorinated water, constant wetting and drying, and salt exposure that accelerates surface breakdown. The warranty’s exclusion of semi-submerged masonry is a genuine and important limitation — the product is rated for splash and surface exposure around a pool, not for masonry sitting continuously in or below the waterline.

Technical Specifications

Coverage Approx. 10m² per litre, per coat
Coats required 2-3, depending on stone porosity
Time between coats 1-4 hours, ambient-condition dependent
Cure time 7 days
Warranty 2 years (excludes semi-submerged masonry)
Not suitable for Bluestone

Where to Use

  • Porous internal and external stone and masonry surfaces
  • Swimming pool coping and surrounds
  • Stone benchtops, splashbacks, showers (spray can format)
  • Outdoor masonry furniture, statues, water features, pots and headstones

How to Apply

  1. Test first — always test on a small area before full application.
  2. Prepare the surface — ensure it is dry, clean and free from residue.
  3. Apply the first coat — via lambswool applicator, brush, or low-pressure Viton sprayer, including underneath exposed pool coping.
  4. Apply the second coat — once the first coat is dry (1-4 hours). Bench tops may need 2-3 spray coats, buffed on the final coat if required.
  5. Allow to cure — 7 days before full performance is reached.

Important Notes

  • Not suitable for bluestone.
  • Resealing may be necessary if harsh chemicals such as acids, degreasers or abrasive cleaners are used on the treated surface.
  • Wear solvent-resistant gloves, protective clothing, safety goggles and an organic vapour respirator during application.
  • < That's a genuinely different failure mode to a decorative sealer used indoors, which is why Synergy's pool-specific development and formal 2-year warranty carry real weight for anyone specifying sealer around a pool rather than a general-purpose exterior product. Applying the correct number of coats for the substrate's actual porosity — rather than defaulting to two regardless — is what determines whether that 2-year warranty performance is genuinely achieved on a given surface. Regular maintenance cleaning with a pH-appropriate product, rather than harsh household chemicals, extends the time between resealing and helps the treated masonry get genuine value from the full 2-year warranty period.

Salt attack around a pool works through repeated wetting and drying cycles that pull dissolved salts deep into masonry, then leave them behind as damaging crystals when the surface evaporates — this is exactly the mechanism Synergy’s development around pool coping is aimed at. A sealer developed and tested for general exterior use, without that specific pool-environment testing, doesn’t necessarily hold up the same way against constant chlorinated water and evaporation cycles at the coping edge.

Frequently asked questions

Is Synergy suitable for use around swimming pools?

Yes — it was developed especially for use around swimming pools to help prevent salt attack, and it’s warranted for 2 years. That warranty does not cover masonry that is semi-submerged for long periods, such as on or below the water line.

How many coats of Synergy are needed?

The second coat is applied once the first is dry, generally between 1-4 hours depending on ambient conditions. More porous masonry may need additional coats for adequate protection.

Is Synergy suitable for bluestone?

No — the product is not suitable for use on bluestone.
