Description
Where vinyl tile or sheet goods meet a bare concrete slab, the edge has to be closed off and ramped down or it will lift. The MJ61 diminishing strip does that in a 30 millimetre wide profile with a 3 millimetre height, tapering from the covering down to the slab.
It is specified to withstand heavy traffic, including hard-wheeled stock carts, trolleys and shopping trolleys, which is the load that destroys a lighter trim in a retail or warehouse setting.

Matching the Strip to the Covering
A diminishing strip only works if its height matches the covering it finishes against. Too low and the covering sits proud, leaving an edge to catch and lift. Too high and the strip stands above the floor, which is exactly the trip point the strip was installed to remove.
The range covers 2, 3 and 5 millimetre heights for that reason. Measure the installed thickness of the tile or sheet good rather than working from the nominal figure on the box, because adhesive bed thickness adds to it.

How to Apply
- Cut to length — Cut the diminishing strip to the length required.
- Butt it up — Hold the strip firmly against the installed tiles so there is no gap at the joint.
- Drill and countersink — Drill and countersink so the screw heads sit flush with the strip surface.
- Fix — Secure along the length so the strip cannot lift under wheeled traffic.
Important Notes
- A gap between the strip and the tile edge is where failure starts. Butt it tight before fixing.
- The range also comes in 2mm and 5mm heights. Match the height to the covering thickness.
- Wear safety glasses and gloves when cutting aluminium.
Ordering and Fixing
Lengths are 3.66 metres and cartons hold ten. In a retail or warehouse setting the strip usually runs the full width of an opening rather than being cut short, so measure the opening and order to suit rather than planning to join lengths.
Fix it properly. Under trolley traffic a diminishing strip takes repeated impact at its leading edge, and a strip fixed at too few points will lift there first. Drill and countersink so the screw heads finish flush, because a proud head is what a trolley wheel catches.
