Description

Engineered European Oak with 1.2mm Veneer, Budget without Compromise That’s the character behind Tumby 12mm, from Sunstar’s Oak Classics – 12mm Builders range, with light tones and a mid-century modern feel.

A European Oak timber board, 12mm thick, with a light brush matte finish and Droplock installation. It’s made by Sunstar Flooring, who supply the Oak Classics – 12mm Builders range through Multifors.

Behind the colour and finish, 031 Tumby’s real numbers are what determine how it holds up in daily use — a 1.2mm wear layer, a 5 Star acoustic rating and P3 slip resistance together give a genuine read on performance rather than just first impressions. Underneath, it’s built on a Multi-Ply Engineered Core core with UV Cured surface protection, a combination that’s what keeps a floor like this performing consistently from the first box to the last rather than varying noticeably across a larger room. Each box covers 2.888 m² across 8 planks | 30% nested lengths, making it straightforward to work out how many boxes a given room actually needs once its area is measured.

How to Install

Installation should be completed by suitably qualified trades and must adhere to any relevant NCC & building requirements.

  1. Direct Stick — Follow adhesive supplier guidelines to form suitable moisture barrier depending on subfloor. Different Adhesives require different steps.
  2. Maximum Temperature — Never exceed 28°C.
  3. Pre-Installation: Run heating at desired temperature for at least one week, then turn off and allow subfloor to cool for 2-3 days.
  4. Gradual Heating — Increase temperature by a maximum of 2°C per day. Maintain a constant temperature once running, with variations of no more than 2°C per day.

Care & Maintenance

Never use a steam mop, or caustic cleaning agents.

Bona Wood Floor Cleaner Peerless: JAL Versadet

When using other cleaning products ensure they are neutral, non-abrasive and don’t use oil-based soaps, or polishes as these will create a residue which can be difficult to remove.

Frequently asked questions

How many boxes of 031 Tumby do I need?

Each box of 031 Tumby covers 2.888 m2 and holds 8 planks. Divide your floor area by 2.888, add about 10 percent for offcuts, then round up to the next whole box. A 20 m2 room works out at 8 boxes. The calculator on this page does the same maths for you. The box is packed with 30% nested lengths, so plank lengths vary and the finished floor avoids a repeating join pattern.

What size are the boards in 031 Tumby?

031 Tumby boards measure 190x1900mm and are 12mm thick, cut from European Oak. Longer, wider boards mean fewer joins across a room, which is part of why the floor reads as timber rather than as a plank product.

Is 031 Tumby suitable for wet areas?

No. 031 Tumby uses a multi-ply engineered core, which is a timber-based board, so it should be kept out of bathrooms, laundries and anywhere subject to standing water. Spills elsewhere should be wiped up rather than left to sit.
