Description
Sika’s Schonox AB is an uncoupling sheet membrane laid over a substrate before tiling. Where a slab has hairline cracking or minor movement risk, an uncoupling membrane decouples the tile layer above from that movement, so the crack doesn’t simply travel up through the grout lines and tiles above it.
It is bonded down with a specific adhesive combination rather than a generic tile adhesive: SikaTile 440 Opti-Cure mixed neat with Lanko Latex 751 additive, applied either rolled or trowelled depending on the job. The two bonding methods give a tiler a choice between a lighter rolled application on a large flat area and a heavier trowelled bed where more mechanical grip is wanted, without changing which membrane or which adhesive combination is used.

Where to Use
- Over substrates with minor cracking or movement risk, ahead of tiling
- Uncoupling applications where the tile layer needs to be isolated from the substrate below
- Jobs where either a rolled or a trowelled bonding method suits the site conditions
How to Apply
- Prepare the bonding mix — combine SikaTile 440 Opti-Cure with Lanko Latex 751 in the rollable or trowelable ratio for the chosen application method.
- Apply the bonding mix — roll or trowel onto the prepared substrate at the appropriate rate. Up to 1kg of additional Opti-Cure powder may be added if needed.
- Lay the membrane — bed the Schonox AB roll into the wet adhesive, working out any air pockets.
- Allow to dry — drying times to covering vary with the substrate; refer to the datasheet’s substrate/dry-time chart, measured at 23°C and 50% relative humidity.
- Tile over — once the bonding adhesive has dried sufficiently, tile as normal.
Important Notes
- The adhesive may need restirring during its pot life; do not add additional water once mixing is complete.
- Drying times before tiling are measured at 23°C and 50% relative humidity and will vary with site conditions.
- Refer to the SikaTile 440 Opti-Cure datasheet for its own shelf life and full mixing detail.
- Store the membrane roll horizontally in a dry, cool area rather than upright or in direct sun.
