Large format and rectified edge tile need real working time and a slump-free wall hold — Davco Powder Mastic’s C1S1TE rating covers both, without the shorter open time of a standard cement-based mastic.

Description

Davco Powder Mastic is a flexible, cement-based tile adhesive built specifically for large format and rectified edge tiles — porcelain, ceramic, mosaic and marble — where a standard adhesive’s shorter open time and less predictable slump can make accurate placement harder. Its non-vertical slump behaviour is a real practical advantage for wall tiling, holding heavier or larger tiles in position without slipping while the adhesive sets.

Rated C1S1TE under AS ISO 13007, it carries genuine cementitious, deformable and extended open time classifications rather than a generic ’tile adhesive’ label. The white formulation is specifically suited to light-coloured tiles and natural stone, where a grey adhesive can show through translucent or pale stone and change the finished colour.

Where to Use

  • Large format and rectified edge porcelain, ceramic, mosaic and marble tiles
  • Building boards, fully cured concrete, cured screed, rendered brickwork and blockwork
  • Davco waterproofing membranes and acoustic underlays
  • High foot traffic commercial and domestic walls and floors — bathrooms, showers, kitchens, laundries, balconies and patios

How to Apply

  1. Prepare the substrate — ensure the surface is clean, sound and, if required, correctly primed for the specific substrate type.
  2. Mix — combine the powder with clean water to a smooth, workable paste.
  3. Apply within the open time — spread with a notched trowel matched to the tile size and format.
  4. Lay the tiles — bed large format and rectified tiles firmly, taking advantage of the extended open time.
  5. Allow to set — wait 24 hours before grouting.

Important Notes

  • Cured concrete or screed substrates should be cured for at least 7 days before tiling.
  • Substrate-specific priming may be required — refer to the datasheet’s substrate and priming table.
  • Suitable for both interior and exterior applications.

Extended open time matters most on a genuinely large tiling area, where a shorter-open-time adhesive can start skinning over before the last tiles in a run go down, leaving inconsistent transfer and weaker bond at the far end of the working session. Because Powder Mastic is formulated to hold its working consistency longer, an installer can spread a bigger area before laying tiles without racing the clock, which matters more as tile format gets larger and each individual tile takes longer to bed and level correctly.
