Description
Mapesil AC is a pure, acetic-crosslinking silicone sealant built for the wet-area and expansion-joint work that follows a tiling job — sealing joints between sinks or sanitary ware and ceramic tiles, and forming a genuinely elastic gasket rated for ±25% movement to EN 15651. Being mould-resistant matters as much as the movement rating in bathrooms and kitchens, where a sealant that discolours or supports mould growth within a year is a common complaint with lower-grade products.
Its 40-colour range, matched to Mapei’s own coloured grouts, is a genuine practical advantage over a generic white or clear sealant — the sealed joint can match the grout rather than standing out as an obvious repair line. On surfaces beyond glass, ceramic and anodised aluminium — concrete, wood, metal, painted surfaces, plastic and rubber — Primer FD is needed first to get a reliable bond.

Where to Use
- Sealing joints between sinks or sanitary ware and ceramic tiles in kitchens and bathrooms
- Expansion joints in wall and floor tiling and swimming pools
- Glass, ceramic and anodised aluminium directly; concrete, wood, metal, plastic and rubber with Primer FD
How to Apply
- Prime if needed — apply Primer FD first on concrete, wood, metal, painted surfaces, plastic or rubber.
- Mask the joint — use tape either side of the joint for a clean edge line if required.
- Apply the sealant — extrude from the cartridge into the prepared joint.
- Tool the joint — smooth before the skin forms (within about 10 minutes).
- Allow to cure — respect the vulcanisation rate before exposing the joint to water or movement.
Important Notes
- Avoid use on exterior joints between ceramic tile and light-coloured natural stone — staining can result.
- Irritant to eyes and skin; may cause drowsiness or dizziness — wear protective gloves and ensure good ventilation.
- Store in a dry, cool place in original cartridges.
- For professional use only.
Colour-matching a sealant to grout sounds like a minor detail until a job is finished and a mismatched white bead around a shower base or benchtop draws the eye straight to it. Having 40 colours drawn directly from Mapei’s own grout range means the sealant and grout can be specified from the same colour system rather than approximating a match from a generic sealant manufacturer’s separate palette — a small choice that has an outsized effect on how finished a wet-area job looks.
