Mapeproof Primer is a one-component, rapid-drying PVDC (polyvinylidene chloride) based dispersion primer built to suppress residual construction moisture before it can affect subsequent flooring installations. That function matters most on a real construction timeline: rather than waiting weeks for a slab to dry naturally to acceptable moisture levels, Mapeproof Primer impedes moisture passage from substrates carrying up to 4.5 CM-% residual moisture (95% RH), allowing earlier flooring installation.
Being ready to use with no mixing, colour-pigmented for coverage uniformity, and low-consumption/high-coverage makes it a genuinely efficient product to apply by roller. Its EMICODE EC1 Plus rating for very low emissions, alongside compliance with ASTM D 1308-87 for resistance to urine, reflects a formulation built for genuine indoor flooring applications rather than a generic moisture barrier repurposed for the job.

Where to Use

How to Apply
- Check the substrate — confirm it is cement-based and not subject to rising damp or underfloor heating.
- Apply by roller — apply directly, no mixing required.
- Allow to dry rapidly — the primer dries quickly to form a waterproof surface membrane.
- Apply the levelling compound — no additional primer or broadcast sand is required over Mapeproof Primer.
Important Notes
- For internal flooring only — do not use externally.
- Do not use over anhydrite or other gypsum/sulphate-based substrates.

Underfloor heating and anhydrite substrates are both specifically excluded because Mapeproof Primer’s moisture-suppression mechanism doesn’t interact predictably with either — heated substrates cycle temperature in a way that can affect the primer film, and anhydrite (calcium sulphate) screeds behave differently to standard cement-based ones in how they hold and release moisture. Confirming the substrate type against these two exclusions before ordering avoids a mismatch that only becomes apparent once the primer has already been applied. Reading the substrate correctly at the outset is a small step that avoids a costly rework once flooring has already been laid over an unsuitable base.
