Description
Sika’s Davco Ultraprime is a fast-drying acrylic primer for porous common building substrates, applied ahead of a Davco tile adhesive or waterproofing membrane. On a porous surface — bare concrete, render, fibre cement — priming stops the substrate pulling moisture out of the adhesive too fast, which is what causes poor bond and premature drying on an unprimed porous surface.
It is a blue liquid, which is a practical choice as much as a colour one: it makes checking for full, even coverage across a large area straightforward before the primer dries and the job moves on to the next stage. A 30 minute drying time also means priming doesn’t stall an otherwise fast-moving tiling schedule the way a slower-drying primer can on a multi-room job.

Where to Use
- Porous common building substrates ahead of Davco tile adhesive
- Priming before waterproofing membrane application
- Residential and commercial tiling projects needing a fast-drying primer
- Multi-room jobs where a slow-drying primer would otherwise hold up the schedule
- Concrete, render and other porous common building substrates ahead of a Davco system
How to Apply
- Check the substrate — it must be a porous common building material, clean and free of dust, loose material and contaminants.
- Apply Ultraprime — spread evenly across the surface at the standard coverage rate of 8-10 m² per litre.
- Allow to dry — approximately 30 minutes under normal conditions.
- Proceed with the job — apply the tile adhesive or waterproofing membrane once the primer has fully dried.
The blue tint earns its keep here: on a large porous substrate it is easy to miss a patch during application, and a clear primer gives no visual cue that a section was skipped until the adhesive fails to bond there later.
Important Notes
- Coverage varies with surface texture and site conditions; treat 8-10 m² per litre as a guide.
- Store off the ground in cool, dry conditions, out of direct sunlight.
- For non-porous or glossy substrates, use a primer designed for those surfaces instead, such as SikaTile-015 NPP.
- For a multipurpose primer tied to the Davco adhesive range specifically, Davco PrimeX is the alternative.
