Description

Garden Blend Mix Soil combines topsoil, organic matter and compost in one product, so you do not need to buy and blend the components separately. It is a general-purpose garden soil for filling a new bed or topping up an existing one.

It is a middle-ground product rather than a specialist soil for one growing purpose. Add fertiliser or extra compost to suit what you are planting.

It sits alongside Top Soil Sandy Loam and Farm Soil in the soil range, as the pre-blended option.

Frequently asked questions

What is Garden Blend Mix Soil made from?

Topsoil, organic matter and compost blended together into a general-purpose garden soil.

What is it used for?

Filling new garden beds and raised beds, and topping up existing beds that have sunk or lost organic matter. It is a general-purpose blend rather than a specialist potting or turf mix.

Is it better than buying topsoil and compost separately?

For most beds it saves buying two products and working out the ratio. Buy the components separately only if you need a specific mix, for example a sandier soil under turf.

How much do I need?

Most beds want 200 to 300mm of soil. One cubic metre fills about 4 square metres at 250mm, or covers 10 square metres at 100mm as a top-up. It weighs roughly 1 to 1.3 tonnes per cubic metre, so a quarter load is about 250 to 325 kg.

Do I need gloves and a mask?

Yes. Compost and soil can contain Legionella and other micro-organisms. Wear gloves and a P2 mask, dampen the material before handling, and wash your hands afterwards.
