Description
Ardex Premium Grade Aggregate is a pre-washed gravel with a 2-5 mm particle size, supplied for use alongside ARDEX levelling compounds. It is not a product used on its own: it is added to a mixed levelling compound to bulk it out for ramping and deep build-ups.
Levelling compounds are formulated for a limited depth range, typically up to around 20 mm laid neat. Adding a washed, graded aggregate lets the same compound be laid substantially deeper without slumping or excessive shrinkage, and reduces the material cost per square metre where a thick section is unavoidable.

Where to Use
- Building ramps from a levelling compound rather than a separate mortar
- Deep build-ups beyond a compound’s neat maximum thickness
- Filling substantial depressions or falls in a subfloor
- Reducing material cost per square metre on thick sections
How to Use
- Check the compound’s datasheet first — the mixing ratio and the depth at which aggregate becomes necessary are set by the levelling compound, not by the aggregate. ARDEX K 65, for example, is laid neat from 3 to 20 mm and takes aggregate above 20 mm, to a maximum of 50 mm.
- Mix the compound with its specified water to the consistency stated on its datasheet.
- Add the aggregate to the mixed compound at the stated ratio and mix through evenly.
- Place and finish following the compound’s normal instructions. Curing and traffic times are those of the compound.
Important Notes
- This aggregate is not a levelling compound and is not used on its own.
- Mixing ratios differ between compounds. Always work from the datasheet of the compound being used.
- Aggregate must be washed and dry before use — moisture affects the compound’s water ratio.
- Adding aggregate changes the surface texture. Where a smooth finish is required, apply a neat topping layer of the compound over the aggregated section.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is Ardex Premium Grade Aggregate used for?
It bulks out Ardex levelling compounds so they can be laid deeper than their normal maximum thickness. Levelling compounds are formulated for a limited depth range; adding a washed 2-5 mm aggregate allows the same product to be used for ramping and deep build-ups, and lowers the material cost per square metre on thick sections.
Which Ardex compounds can it be mixed with?
It is intended for use with Ardex levelling compounds including K 65, K 15, K 10 and Arditex. Always check the datasheet for the specific compound — mixing ratios and the depth at which aggregate becomes necessary differ between products. ARDEX K 65 is laid neat from 3 to 20 mm and requires a washed and dried 2-5 mm aggregate above 20 mm, to a maximum of 50 mm.
How much aggregate do I add?
There is no single ratio — it is set by the levelling compound, not the aggregate. Refer to the datasheet for the compound you are using, which states both the mixing ratio and the depth range it applies to. Mix the compound with its specified water first, then add the aggregate.
