Description
Dry-Treat’s STAIN PROOF Acidic Cleaner removes efflorescence, mortar haze and mineral deposits from stone, pavers, tile, brick and masonry, without the fumes that come with traditional muriatic or phosphoric acid cleaners. It’s built to do the same job those older industrial acids do, just with less risk to the person applying it.
Being super concentrated means a relatively small quantity of concentrate makes a large volume of ready-to-use cleaner, diluted into a bucket of clean water at a standard rate before application.
Technical Specifications
| Product type | Non-fuming acidic cleaner and efflorescence remover |
|---|---|
| Dilution | 2.5 gallons cleaner per 10 litres water (standard rate) |
| Hazard note | May be corrosive to some metals, including aluminium; causes skin and eye irritation — read the SDS before use |
Where to Use
- Removing efflorescence and mineral deposits from stone, pavers and tile
- Masonry and brickwork cleaning
- Post-installation mortar haze removal
- Jobs where a traditional fuming acid cleaner is a safety concern
How to Apply
- Wet the surface — pre-wet the area to be cleaned with clean water.
- Mix the solution — fill a bucket about three-quarters with clean water, then add the cleaner at the 2.5 gallon per 10 litre standard dilution.
- Apply — pour, brush or spray the mixed solution generously onto the wetted surface.
- Allow it to work — leave for the recommended dwell time, agitating with a brush if needed.
- Rinse thoroughly — rinse the surface several times with clean water using a mop or wet vacuum, to remove all residue.
Important Notes
- Corrosive to some metals, particularly aluminium — protect metal fittings and fixtures before applying.
- Causes skin irritation and serious eye damage; wear appropriate PPE and follow the SDS.
- In case of fire, use alcohol-resistant foam or normal protein foam for extinction.
- Keep out of reach of children and store according to the product label.
Efflorescence and mortar haze form as soluble salts migrate to the surface and crystallise, and a genuinely acidic cleaner is usually the only reliable way to dissolve that crystalline layer rather than just wiping it away. Traditional muriatic (hydrochloric) or phosphoric acid cleaners do the same chemistry but release strong fumes as they react, which is a real problem in enclosed courtyards, breezeways or indoor stone floors during a fit-out. STAIN PROOF Acidic Cleaner is formulated to do the equivalent job without that fume profile, which changes the practical site logistics — less forced ventilation, less risk to nearby finished surfaces and fittings, and less PPE burden on the applicator, though gloves and eye protection are still required per the SDS. Because it’s supplied as a concentrate rather than ready-to-use, freight and storage costs per treated square metre are also lower than an equivalent volume of pre-diluted acid cleaner.
