Planiseal 88 is an osmotic cementitious mortar for waterproofing masonry and concrete structures under negative water pressure, including drinking-water reservoirs and tanks, applied by brush, trowel or spray in 2-3 coats.

Description

Planiseal 88 is a one-component, normal-setting osmotic cementitious mortar for protecting and waterproofing concrete and masonry, rated safe for contact with drinking water. That drinking-water rating sets it apart from a general waterproofing mortar — it’s specified for reservoirs, water tanks and pipes carrying potable water, not just decorative or structural waterproofing.

Its osmotic action lets it work against negative water pressure up to 1 atmosphere, which is the genuinely difficult case: waterproofing a below-grade wall or tank from the inside face while water pressure pushes from the outside. Conforming to EN 1504-2 coating (C) requirements under the MC and IR principles gives it a real compliance basis for structural concrete protection work, not just a marketing claim.

How to Apply

  1. Mix — combine with 21-23% mixing water per 20kg bag to a fluid, trowelable consistency.
  2. Apply the first coat — by brush for the first coat if trowel application is planned for subsequent coats.
  3. Apply successive coats — after 5 hours and no later than 24 hours from the previous coat.
  4. Allow to cure — wait 7 days before putting the surface into service.

Important Notes

  • Contains cement, which can cause irritant alkaline reactions on contact with sweat or skin — wear protective gloves and goggles.
  • Can be removed from tools with water before it hardens; once hardened, cleaning is mechanical only.
  • Stable for up to 12 months in original packaging, stored dry and elevated.

Waterproofing that’s rated safe for drinking water is a materially different bar than general waterproofing — coatings and mortars used elsewhere in construction often can’t be specified for potable water infrastructure at all, since anything that leaches into the water supply is a genuine health and compliance issue.
