Description
Mapei Novoplan 21 Self Leveller is a fast-hardening smoothing compound applied from 1mm up to 10mm per coat, built to prepare both new and existing interior substrates — including heated screeds — for PVC, rubber and carpet flooring. Its ability to go directly over existing ceramic tile, terrazzo or natural stone, provided the surface is solid, dry and clean, is a genuine advantage on renovation work where removing old flooring isn’t practical or necessary.
Being rated suitable for wheeled traffic once cured extends where it can be specified into commercial settings with trolley, castor-wheel or light equipment traffic, rather than being limited to purely residential applications. At 1.6 kg/m² per mm of thickness, coverage calculations are straightforward for planning material quantities on a job.
Its fast-hardening formulation means a levelled floor can typically take wheeled traffic once cured, which matters on renovation and commercial projects where minimising downtime between levelling and the next trade or occupancy is a real priority. Being able to apply Novoplan 21 directly over solid, dry, clean existing hard flooring — including ceramic tile, terrazzo and natural stone — also avoids the labour and mess of removing an existing floor before levelling, provided that existing surface is properly prepared and free of contamination.
Its 1.6 kg/m² consumption rate per millimetre of thickness makes quantity estimation straightforward once the required build-up is known, and the 20kg bag format keeps handling manageable on both small repair jobs and larger commercial levelling work.

Where to Use
- Smoothing new and existing interior substrates, including heated screeds
- Preparing for PVC, rubber and carpet flooring installation
- Over existing ceramic tile, terrazzo and natural stone (solid, dry and clean)
- Areas requiring wheeled-traffic tolerance
How to Apply
- Assess the substrate — confirm it is solid, dry and clean, whether new or an existing hard floor.
- Mix — combine the powder with water to a self-levelling, pourable consistency.
- Pour and spread — apply to the required thickness between 1mm and 10mm.
- Allow to harden — take advantage of the fast-hardening formulation before confirming readiness for flooring installation.
Important Notes
- Applying over heated screeds is supported, but confirm heating shutdown timing per standard levelling-compound practice.
- Existing hard flooring being levelled over must be solid, dry and clean — not loose or contaminated.
- For professional use.
