Description
Loba UV Protect is a finish additive built to prevent the UV-light induced yellowing that light-coloured wood species naturally undergo over time. That gradual yellowing is easy to miss day to day, but becomes very noticeable later when furniture or carpets are moved and reveal an un-yellowed patch of timber underneath — a mismatch UV Protect is specifically designed to prevent by stabilising the wood’s original tone under ongoing light exposure.
It’s suited to light European timber species specifically — maple, birch, ash and spruce among them — where the visual contrast of uneven yellowing is most obvious. It cannot prevent the lightening of dark timber species, so its use case is deliberately targeted rather than a general-purpose UV additive for any floor. Being perfectly adjusted for all water-based LOBA primers and finishes, it integrates cleanly into an existing LOBA finishing schedule without needing a separate compatibility check.
Dosing is precise: one 100ml container of UV Protect is mixed into 5 litres or 5kg of finish, with a maximum addition quantity of 2%. Adding it to each finish layer, rather than just the final coat, gives an improved overall result. For 2-component finish systems, the additive is only added once the hardening agent has already been integrated into the mix, and the combined product must then be processed within the finish’s own specified working time.
Because UV yellowing happens gradually and invisibly under normal daily light exposure, its effects are easy to overlook until a piece of furniture or a rug is eventually moved — at which point the mismatch between protected and exposed timber becomes immediately obvious and difficult to correct after the fact. Building UV Protect into the original finishing schedule avoids that problem entirely rather than trying to remedy it years later.

Where to Use
- Light European timber floors prone to UV yellowing
- Jobs where furniture or rugs will be moved after finishing
- Any water-based LOBA finish or primer application on light timber
How to Apply
- Shake the contents well — before mixing into the finish.
- Measure the dose — one 100ml container per 5L/5kg of finish, up to 2% maximum.
- Mix immediately before application — stir or shake thoroughly.
- Add to each layer — apply consistently across every coat for the best result.
- Process within the finish’s working time — one-component mixes within 24 hours, two-component per the specified processing time.
Important Notes
- Only add the additive immediately before application.
- For 2-component systems, add UV Protect only after the hardening agent is fully integrated.
- Does not prevent lightening of dark timber species.
