Description

Lang Lang Yellow Brick Sand is a yellow bricklaying sand with a slightly coarser texture than the white brick sands. It gives a warm-toned mortar joint and is also used for paving bedding and general construction work.

It sits alongside White Brick Sand (Nyora) and Super White Brick Sand. Choose a white sand only where the joint must be pale.

Joint colour cannot easily be changed once the mortar has cured, so confirm which sand the job calls for before mixing, and collect enough for the whole job in one load so the colour does not shift partway through a wall.

Where to Use

  • Bricklaying where a yellow-toned mortar joint is wanted
  • General construction work

How to Apply

  1. Confirm the specified sand – check the colour called for before mixing, since it is a permanent part of the finish.
  2. Measure the mix ratio – follow the required sand-to-cement ratio for the job.
  3. Combine dry ingredients – mix the sand and cement thoroughly before adding water.
  4. Add water gradually – mix to a workable, consistent consistency.
  5. Store remaining sand dry – keep unused sand covered and dry between uses.

Important Notes

  • Joint colour is permanent once the mortar cures, so confirm the sand before mixing.
  • Sold as Lang Lang yellow brick sand.
  • Pickup from Keilor East (Melbourne). Sold loose by the cubic metre in quarter-m3 steps; part loads of a quarter, half and three-quarter cubic metre are available.
  • Sand is heavy: roughly 1.5 to 1.6 tonnes per cubic metre, so a quarter cubic metre is about 400 kg. Check the trailer’s load rating before choosing a full load.
  • Crushed stone and sand contain crystalline silica. Keep the material damp when spreading or sweeping, avoid breathing the dust, and wear a P2 mask if it is dry and dusty.
  • When mixing with cement: cement is alkaline and can burn skin and eyes. Wear gloves, eye protection and a P2 mask, and wash it off skin promptly.

Frequently asked questions

What does Lang Lang Yellow Brick Sand look like?

A distinct yellow sand with a slightly coarser feel than the white brick sands. In mortar it gives a warm, sandy-toned joint.

What is it used for?

Bricklaying and block laying mortar, paving bedding and general construction work where a coloured joint is fine or wanted. Choose a white brick sand only when the joint must be pale.

How does it compare to White Brick Sand?

Same job, different colour and a slightly coarser grade. Yellow is the standard everyday choice; white sands are for light joints. Do not mix sources partway through a wall or the joint colour will change.

How heavy is a cubic metre?

About 1.5 to 1.6 tonnes. A quarter cubic metre is around 400 kg and a half is about 800 kg, so check the trailer’s load rating before choosing the quantity.
