Where a standard cement adhesive isn’t flexible or water-resistant enough — pools, facades, high-traffic floors — Davco Davelastic lifts the mix’s performance. Diluted 1:1 with water and stirred into the adhesive, it’s sold in 1 litre and 5 litre jerry cans or a 20 litre pail.

Description

Sika’s Davco Davelastic is an acrylic polymer additive mixed into a cement-based tile adhesive to lift its flexibility, strength and water resistance beyond what a standard cement mix delivers on its own. That combination is what makes it suited to submerged tiling, building facades and high foot traffic areas, all places where a plain cement adhesive is more likely to fail under movement or repeated wetting.

It’s used across both interior and exterior tiling work, diluted with water at a 1 to 1 ratio before being worked into the adhesive mix. Because it’s an additive rather than a standalone adhesive, the base tile adhesive still does the primary bonding — Davelastic modifies how that adhesive behaves once it’s cured, rather than replacing any part of the mix.

Where to Use

  • Submerged tiling, such as pools and water features
  • Building facades exposed to weather and movement
  • High foot traffic tiled areas, commercial and residential
  • Interior and exterior cement-based tile adhesive systems
  • Jobs where a standard cement adhesive’s flexibility and water resistance need lifting without changing the base adhesive
  • Any of Davco’s range of cement-based tile adhesives and grouts, where extra performance is called for

How to Apply

  1. Prepare the substrate — it must meet the relevant standard for the job, structurally sound, dry, clean and free of contaminating material. Thoroughly clean old surfaces before starting.
  2. Dilute — mix Davelastic with clean, potable water at a 1 to 1 ratio.
  3. Add to the cement adhesive — use the diluted Davelastic in place of the mixing water for the chosen Davco tile adhesive, following that adhesive’s own ratio for the amount of liquid required.
  4. Tile within the working time — respect the pot life, open time and adjustment time of the resulting adhesive mix.

Because Davelastic changes the working properties of the base adhesive it is mixed into, check the pot life, open time and adjustment time against the finished mix rather than assuming they match the plain cement adhesive’s own published figures.

Important Notes

  • Always dilute before use; Davelastic is not applied neat.
  • Refer to the specific tile adhesive’s own datasheet for the exact ratio of diluted Davelastic to use as the mixing liquid.
  • Store in dry, cool conditions out of direct sunlight for up to 12 months unopened.

Frequently asked questions

What does Davco Davelastic do to a tile adhesive?

Mixed in as an additive, it increases the flexibility, strength and water resistance of a cement-based tile adhesive, which matters for submerged areas, building facades and high foot traffic tiling that a standard cement mix alone wouldn’t handle as well.

How is Davco Davelastic diluted?

It’s diluted with clean, potable water at a 1 to 1 ratio before being used as an additive in the cement-based mix.
