Cement Australia Rapid Set Concrete is a dry concrete mix formulated to harden rapidly. It goes straight into the post hole: water first, then the dry mix, tamped around the post. Supports may be removed after about 1 hour, depending on the temperature. For fence and non-load bearing pergola posts, clothes hoists and other non-structural uses. 20kg bag, pickup from Keilor East.

Description

Cement Australia Rapid Set Concrete is a dry concrete mix, made in Australia, formulated to harden rapidly so a post job can be finished sooner than with a standard concrete mix.

Cement Australia lists it for fixing fence and non-load bearing pergola posts, clothes hoists and many other non-structural uses. It is not designed for use in any structural application.

It is not mixed in a barrow. Water goes into the hole first, then the dry mix is poured in and tamped around the post. Supports may be removed after 1 hour, depending on the ambient temperature.

How to Apply

  1. Position and support the post: place the post or pole in the hole and support it so it cannot fall over.
  2. Pour water into the hole: start with 2.0 litres per 20kg bag.
  3. Add half the bag: pour half the bag evenly around the post without delay, then tamp it with a rod to remove air pockets.
  4. Add the rest and tamp again: add small amounts of water only if needed so the mix is completely moistened. If the hole needs more concrete, repeat straight away with another bag.
  5. Remove supports after 1 hour: depending on the temperature. Check the post is stable before removing the supports.

Important Notes

  • Wet cement is alkaline and can burn skin and eyes. Wear gloves, eye protection and a P2 mask, avoid breathing dust when opening or mixing, and wash it off skin promptly. See the Safe Work Australia guidance on cement and silica dust.
  • Cement, sand and aggregate contain crystalline silica. Keep the material damp where you can, avoid breathing the dust, and wear a P2 mask if it is dry and dusty.
  • Not designed for use in any structural application.
  • Not recommended for use below 10°C.
  • Do not add extra cement, sand, other aggregates or admixtures to the mix.
  • Store dry and use within the shelf life stated on the bag.
