Description

12mm Sand and Screenings Mix combines crushed stone screenings, nominally 12mm in a 7 to 14mm range, with concrete sand, supplied pre-mixed as a single product. The point is convenience: rather than buying two materials and turning them together by shovel, you receive one blended load that goes straight into the job.

It is generally used for bedding and levelling layers, where a mix of fine stone and sand is wanted. Pick it up at the Keilor East yard, or select delivery at checkout if your postcode is in the delivery area.

Where to Use

  • Bedding layers under pavers and paving slabs
  • Levelling layers before a finished surface goes down
  • Filling and levelling low spots
  • Bedding under stepping stones and garden edging

How to Apply

  1. Prepare the base – excavate to the required level and firm the subgrade.
  2. Spread evenly – lay the mix in an even layer to the depth the job needs.
  3. Screed level – draw a straight edge across screed rails to get a level surface.
  4. Compact if required – lightly dampen and compact with a plate compactor or hand tamper for a firm bed.
  5. Lay the surface – place pavers or the finished surface on the prepared bed.

Choosing Between Sand and Screenings Products

  • 12mm Sand and Screenings Mix: screenings and concrete sand already blended, ready to spread.
  • Concrete Sand: sand on its own, for mixing your own concrete.
  • 1/2 Inch Screening: screenings of a similar size (about 12mm) on their own, without the sand; Screening 20mm is a larger screening.

Important Notes

  • Quantities go up in quarter cubic metres, from a quarter load to as many full cubic metres as the job needs.
  • Match the quantity to what your trailer can legally carry; its payload is shown on the compliance plate.
  • Like most stone and sand products, this can release crystalline silica dust when dry. Wet it down before working it, avoid breathing the dust and use a P2 mask on dry days (Safe Work Australia explains the risks).
