Description
A door jamb is the frame the door hangs in, and it must be fitted plumb and square for the door to swing and close properly. This primed MDF jamb is made in a 110 x 18mm section, which suits a wall about 110mm thick, such as 90mm timber studs framed to AS 1684 and lined with 10mm plasterboard on both sides. It is supplied as a full set, two legs and a head, hinged and latched (H/L) for a single door.
Both left-hand and right-hand jambs are stocked and supplied as matching sets with our Readicote doors; order the same hand (LH or RH) for the door and the jamb. MDF is knot free and gives a smooth, even finish once painted, and the factory primer is ready for undercoat or finishing coats, so the jamb and architraves can be painted with the door.

Choosing the Right Jamb Width
The jamb should finish flush with the wall lining on both sides so the architraves sit flat. Add the stud depth to the thickness of the lining on each face: 90mm studs with 10mm plasterboard on both sides give 110mm, which is this jamb. Walls with 13mm linings, tiled faces, or steel studs of a different depth need a different jamb width, so measure the finished wall before ordering.
Length Options
| Jamb length | Intended door height |
|---|---|
| 2110mm | 2040mm |
| 2410mm | 2340mm |
Where to Use
- New internal door openings in 90mm timber stud walls
- Replacing damaged or out-of-square internal jambs during renovations
- With a matching hinged and latched internal door
- Taller 2340mm doors in homes with higher ceilings
How to Install
- Check the opening: make sure the rough opening allows the door width plus the jamb thickness and packing on both sides.
- Check the handing: confirm the hinge and latch preparation is on the correct sides for the door swing before assembly.
- Assemble: fix the head to the legs square.
- Set plumb: stand the jamb in the opening, pack behind the hinge and latch positions and check plumb, level and square.
- Fix and finish: fix through the packing into the studs with the jamb faces flush with the lining, hang the door, fit architraves, fill and paint.
Important Notes
- Pickup only from our Keilor East yard.
- For internal use only; MDF must be kept dry.
- Seal any cut ends with primer before painting.
- When removing old jambs and linings in an older home, have the linings tested for asbestos first; see Asbestos in Victoria.
