Description
Long runs of commercial carpet need time to position before the adhesive takes hold. Max Bond 106 is formulated for exactly that: a water-based SBR latex with extra open time, which then develops the leggy grab that holds jute, action-backed, woven and needle-punched carpets.
It is an internal-use adhesive suited to absorbent subfloors, including heated ones, and it is supplied in 15 litre pails for the continuous areas commercial carpet is usually laid in.

Open Time and Why It Is the Point
Most carpet adhesives are a compromise between grab and working time. Get more grab and you lose the ability to position a long run; get more working time and the carpet creeps before it holds. Max Bond 106 is formulated to give the extra open time first and then develop its leggy grab.
On a domestic room that difference is marginal. On a commercial floor where a single run of broadloom has to be walked into position over ten or fifteen metres, it is what decides whether the job goes down straight.

How to Apply
- Prepare the subfloor — Surfaces must be dry, smooth, sound and clean, free of wax, grease and hydrostatic pressure.
- Prime if absorbent — Prime absorbent substrates before the adhesive goes down. The substrate must stay absorbent so the adhesive can dry and cure.
- Spread — Apply with a V-notched trowel. A 1.6mm notch gives up to 5 square metres per litre for bonding double bond underlay.
- Allow open time — Let the adhesive develop its grab before laying, which is what gives you the positioning window on long runs.
- Lay and roll — Set the carpet in and roll to achieve full transfer to the backing.
Important Notes
- Minimum subfloor temperature before preparation and application is 10 degrees.
- On heated subfloors, follow AS 1884 clause 4.1.3 for how long heating must be off.
- The substrate must be absorbent. On a sealed slab the adhesive cannot dry and cure properly.
