Description
Sika’s Davco PrimeX is a technologically advanced acrylic and water-based multipurpose primer for walls and floors, used ahead of Davco adhesive and waterproofing systems. Being premixed and ready to use straight from the container removes a step from site preparation compared with a primer that needs diluting to a specific ratio before it goes on.
It’s formulated for the common substrates a tiler actually meets on site — Scyon, compressed fibre cement sheet, and steel-trowelled or float-finish concrete that’s clean and free of laitance — rather than being a single-purpose product for one substrate type. That multipurpose scope is the point of the name: one primer covers most of a typical wet-area or tiling job’s substrate mix, rather than stocking a separate primer for each board or slab type on site.

Where to Use
- Wall and floor applications ahead of Davco adhesive systems
- Priming before waterproofing membrane application
- Scyon, compressed fibre cement sheet and similar board substrates
- Clean, laitance-free steel-trowelled or float-finish concrete
- Sites carrying more than one substrate type, where one multipurpose primer replaces several specialised ones
- Preparation work ahead of both tile adhesive and waterproofing systems on the same wall or floor
How to Apply
- Check the substrate — it must be clean, sound and free of laitance, dust and contaminants.
- Apply PrimeX as supplied — no dilution required, spread evenly to achieve 8-10 m² coverage per litre.
- Watch for the milkiness to disappear — the primer is dry once its wet, milky appearance has fully cleared.
- Proceed with the adhesive or membrane — apply the Davco system once the primer has dried.
Because PrimeX is premixed, there is no dilution ratio for a rushed site mix to get wrong, a real failure point with primers that need diluting before use, where an inconsistent mix can leave part of a wall under-primed.
Important Notes
- Do not apply in conditions requiring the concrete to be pre-wet without following the specific instructions for that scenario.
- Coverage will vary with substrate porosity and site conditions.
- Store in dry, cool conditions, out of direct sunlight, for up to 9 months unopened.
- For a general porous-substrate primer that isn’t tied to a specific Davco adhesive system, Davco Ultraprime is the alternative.
