Description
Where carpet terminates at a doorway it has to be gripped and covered, and a napdown bar does both. This is the pinned domestic profile: a 38 millimetre wide aluminium bar with pins that hold conventionally installed carpet, in 3.3 metre lengths.
It is anodised at the factory rather than on site, which matters more than it sounds. Batch-to-batch colour consistency means bars bought at different times for the same house still match once they are down.

Napdown Bars and Carpet Edges
A cut carpet edge left uncovered frays, and an edge that is only covered without being gripped lifts. A napdown bar does both jobs in one component: the pins engage the backing to hold the carpet, and the bar is then tapped closed over the edge to conceal it.
That is why the pin pattern matters more than the cover profile. A bar with too few pins for the carpet weight lets the edge creep out over time, which shows up first as a ripple a metre back from the doorway rather than at the bar itself.

How to Apply
- Measure and cut — Cut the 3.3 metre length to the width of the opening.
- Position — Set the bar so the pins will engage the carpet backing and the cover closes the edge.
- Fix down — Fix through the pre-drilled holes into the substrate.
- Nap the carpet down — Trim the carpet to length, engage it on the pins and tap the bar closed over it.
Important Notes
- This is the domestic profile. Commercial installations take a heavier bar.
- Leave the plastic wrap on until the bar is about to be fitted, because anodised finishes mark easily in site storage.
- Wear safety glasses and gloves when cutting aluminium.
Ordering and Handling
Bars come in 3.3 metre lengths, which covers a standard doorway with useful offcut. Measure every opening before ordering rather than assuming they match, because door widths in an older house vary more than expected.
Leave the plastic wrap on until the bar is about to be cut and fixed. Anodised finishes mark easily, and site storage is where most of that damage happens rather than during installation.
