Description

Where a crack, anchor point or old slab needs a flowing repair liquid, Megapoxy H is a thin, hydrophilic resin made for that job. The TDS describes a low viscosity, 100% solids, solvent-free liquid suitable for repairs to structures in contact with potable water.

The TDS states that it complies with AS/NZS 4020:2018 (testing of products for use in contact with drinking water), is resistant to hydrogen sulphide that may be present in sewage treatment pipes and plants, and can be combined with fine aggregates to make a high strength epoxy mortar. It is described as having very low volatile organic compounds.

Where to Use

The TDS lists:

  • New to old concrete bonding
  • Repair of cracks in concrete not expected to move further, by capillary action or injection
  • Underwater and splashzone repairs (listed by the manufacturer; the TDS gives no separate method for this use)
  • Steel anchoring into concrete
  • Floor repairs and coating
  • Epoxy mortars and epoxy concrete

How to Apply

  1. Prepare the surface: concrete must be free of grease and oil, with laitance removed by scabbling, grit blasting or grinding, and surface dry for maximum adhesion. Grit blast and degrease metals.
  2. Measure and mix: combine 3 parts A to 1 part B by volume and mix thoroughly for a minimum of 3 minutes. Work within 30 minutes at 25 degrees C.
  3. Apply: pour, inject or brush the mixed resin as the repair requires. The two procedures below are separate uses.
  4. Clean up: use Megapoxy Thinners on mixing implements and tools, and wear disposable rubber gloves.

For steel anchoring: drill a hole about 1.5 times the steel diameter, blow out dust with oil-free dry compressed air, set the steel and pour the mixed resin from one side so air can escape. Cure for 24 hours.

For new to old concrete bonding: apply to prepared old concrete at 1 to 1.5 litres per square metre and place the new concrete within 15 minutes.

Important Notes

  • Surface dry concrete is the TDS advice for maximum adhesion; it gives no separate preparation for underwater use.
  • An incorrect ratio or poor mixing lowers the cured properties and may leave the system uncured or discoloured on ageing.
  • For horizontal steel grouting, and vertical and overhead rendering, the TDS specifies Megapoxy HT instead.
  • Refer to the Safety Data Sheets for hazard and handling information.

Frequently asked questions

What is the mix ratio of Megapoxy H and how long can it be worked?

Megapoxy H is mixed 3 parts A to 1 part B by volume. The work time is 30 minutes at 25 degrees C. The TDS says the correct ratio and thorough mixing are essential.

How much Megapoxy H is used to bond new concrete to old?

For new to old concrete bonding, the TDS gives an application rate of 1 to 1.5 litres per square metre to prepared old concrete. New concrete must be placed within 15 minutes.

How long does Megapoxy H take to cure?

The minimum cure time is 48 hours at 15 degrees C, 24 hours at 25 degrees C and 12 hours at 35 degrees C. The minimum application temperature is 10 degrees C.
