MDF 9mm x 2400mm x 1200mm Sheet gives cabinetry, shelving and wall linings a smooth, uniform surface ready for paint or laminate. Each 2.88m² sheet weighs 20.2kg at a consistent 700kg/m³ density.

Description

MDF 9mm x 2400mm x 1200mm Sheet provides a smooth, uniform surface built from recycled wood fibres, suited to a wide range of non-wet-area interior applications including cabinetry, shelving, wall linings and furniture. At 9mm, it strikes a middle ground in the MDF range — thicker than the 3mm protection-grade sheeting, but lighter and easier to handle than 16mm board where full structural rigidity isn’t the priority.

Its consistent 700kg/m³ density is what gives it strong, even screw-holding performance across the whole sheet, rather than the variable holding strength you get with natural timber where grain direction and knots affect fastener grip. Combined with excellent machinability, it cuts, drills and machines cleanly with correct tooling, minimising the splintering that can spoil an otherwise accurate cut on lower-density board.

Where to Use

  • Cabinetry and furniture manufacturing
  • Shelving
  • Wall linings
  • Non-wet-area interior applications generally, where a surface ready for paint or laminate is needed

How to Apply

  1. Check application suitability — confirm the intended use is a non-wet-area interior application.
  2. Cut and machine with correct tooling — use sharp, appropriate blades and bits to minimise splintering on edges and cut-outs.
  3. Fix and fasten — take advantage of MDF’s consistent density for reliable screw-holding across the sheet, not just at the edges.
  4. Finish — paint or laminate the smooth surface as required for the application.

Important Notes

  • Not suitable for wet-area applications.
  • Utility vehicle deliveries are limited to a total of 40 sheets due to weight restrictions.
  • On-site assistance is required for all MDF sheet deliveries.
  • Deliveries above the utility vehicle limit require crane truck or forklift handling, charged according to delivery location.

Choosing between 9mm and a thicker or thinner MDF sheet usually comes down to how much unsupported span the panel needs to cover: at 9mm, it’s well suited to cabinet carcasses, drawer bases and shelving that’s fixed or braced at reasonably close intervals, but a longer unsupported shelf span would benefit from the extra rigidity of 16mm board instead. Because delivery of larger quantities needs to be planned around the utility-vehicle sheet limit and on-site handling assistance, it’s worth confirming order quantities and delivery access details before ordering for a job with a tight installation schedule.

Frequently asked questions

What size is a 9mm MDF sheet?

2400mm x 1200mm, giving 2.88m² of usable area per sheet, at 9mm thickness and a weight of approximately 20.2kg.

Is 9mm MDF suitable for wet areas?

No — MDF sheeting is suited to non-wet-area interior applications such as cabinetry, shelving, wall linings and furniture. It’s not designed for bathrooms or other wet-area use.

Are there delivery restrictions on 9mm MDF sheets?

Yes — weight restrictions apply to utility vehicle deliveries, which are limited to a total of 40 sheets. Larger quantities need to be delivered by crane truck or forklift, and on-site assistance is required for all MDF deliveries.
