Description
Loba Whitener Additive is a solvent-free, water-based brightening agent designed to be mixed into LOBA’s own water-based sealers and finishes, giving a smooth, controllable whitening effect on wood floors rather than requiring a separate whitening product or process. Because the intensity of the whitening can be individually controlled through variable application in one or more layers, it gives real design flexibility from a subtle brightening through to a more pronounced whitewashed look.
It’s specifically recommended for light wood species and light-coloured surfaces, with dark wood species needing consultation with the Loba-Wakol Technical Team first — the colour effect depends heavily on the specific timber, and species with water-soluble components like tannic acid can behave unpredictably with the additive. A preliminary colour sample on the actual floor is genuinely worth doing before committing to a full application, since Whitener’s effect can vary noticeably between timber species.

Where to Use
- Light wood species and light-coloured wood floor surfaces
- Satin finishes (preferred, to reduce lap-mark risk)
- Wherever a controlled, gradual whitening effect is desired
How to Apply
- Test first — prepare a colour sample on the original wood to assess the achievable shade.
- Mix — shake the Whitener and finish well, add a maximum of one 80ml container per gallon of finish, and stir or shake in thoroughly.
- For 2K systems — add Whitener after the hardener has already been worked into the mix.
- Apply using a LOBA finish bucket — never pour directly onto the floor; use the recommended applicator.
- Apply in at least two layers — apply evenly, avoiding puddles and overlaps, to minimise lap marks.
Important Notes
- The darker the substrate, the higher the risk of lap marks — mitigate by using satin finishes and even application.
