Description
Most cover strips stop being useful past a few millimetres of height difference. The MJ20 heavy duty cover strip is built for the harder case: a 50 millimetre wide aluminium extrusion that bridges internal transitions with up to 10 millimetres of height variation.
It is supplied in 3.66 metre lengths with matching colour screws and plugs, and it screws down rather than nailing, which is what lets it hold across a bigger step without lifting at the edges.

When a Cover Strip Is Not Enough
Cover strips work by bridging a height difference, and there is a limit past which bridging stops being comfortable to walk on. The MJ20 extends that limit to 10 millimetres by being wider, at 50 millimetres, and by screw fixing rather than nailing.
Past 10 millimetres the answer is a transition ramp rather than a wider strip, because the step becomes a trip hazard that no flat trim resolves. Below about 6 millimetres, a standard cover strip is lighter, cheaper and entirely adequate.

- Internal transitions where floors of different types and heights meet
- Height differences up to 10mm, beyond what a standard cover strip handles
- Wide doorways and openings needing a substantial trim
- Commercial transitions subject to trolley and foot traffic
How to Apply
- Cut to length — Cut the MJ20 to the length the opening requires.
- Drill — Drill using a 6mm masonry bit at the countersunk hole positions.
- Bed the edges — On concrete or timber, run a bead of adhesive along the bottom of both edges to fill surface variation.
- Screw down — Fix using the supplied 6mm plugs and matching colour screws.
Important Notes
- Bedding both edges in adhesive prevents the tapping sound that can develop where the extrusion bridges an uneven surface.
- For internal installations. Heights above 10mm need a ramp rather than a cover strip.
- Wear safety glasses and gloves when cutting or drilling aluminium.
