Description

CRC 5-56 Marine from CRC Industries (Aust) Pty Ltd is a multi-purpose lubricant designed to prevent damage due to water and salt atmosphere in marine engines and boating equipment. The 300 g aerosol on this page is item code 6006.

According to the data sheet, it forms a thin film that lubricates moving parts and protects metals from corrosion caused by humidity and salt air for extended periods. The data sheet also says it repels water, prevents ingress, starts wet engines and frees corroded parts on vehicles, trailers, springs, shackles, domes and zips.

The features listed on the data sheet include lubrication for smooth action that silences squeaks and squeals, a protective film for ongoing protection against corrosion, and quick penetration that breaks away rust and corrosion and frees components bonded by dirt and scale. It also lists cleaning grease and tar off painted surfaces, and states that the product contains no silicone.

  • General marine use

How to Apply

Directions as stated on the data sheet. The directions apply to the aerosol’s penetrating, lubricating and moisture displacing uses alike, and the sheet gives no separate method for each:

  1. Check: do not spray while equipment is energised.
  2. Spray: hold the can 30 cm away from the surface and spray liberally.
  3. Soak: for greater penetration, leave to soak in before working on the part.
  4. Wipe: wipe away excess fluid with a clean cloth.
  5. Flooded engines: spray all electrics and leads liberally.

Safety and handling

As stated on the data sheet:

  • Flammable aerosol. Keep away from heat, hot surfaces, sparks, open flames and other ignition sources. No smoking. Do not spray on an open flame or other ignition source.
  • Do not spray while equipment is energised.
  • Deliberately sniffing or inhaling concentrated contents can be harmful or fatal.
  • Pressurised container: may burst if heated. Do not pierce or burn, even after use. Protect from sunlight. Do not expose to temperatures exceeding 50 degrees C.
  • When cleaning surfaces, test a small area first for colour fastness. All products should be tested for suitability on a particular application prior to use.
  • Dispose of contents and container in accordance with relevant regulations. The data sheet refers to the safety data sheet for more details.
