Description
Australian Builders Hydrated Lime is a fine, white calcium hydroxide powder that meets AS 1672.1, Limes and limestones: Lime for building. According to the product data sheet, adding it to cement and sand mortars and renders improves their workability, plasticity and longevity.
The manufacturer lists mortars, plasters, renders, paving, asphalt and road soil stabilisation among its uses. For general bricklaying, the data sheet gives a mortar of 1 part cement, 1 part hydrated lime and 6 parts sand by volume (AS 3700 type M3) as a guide.
Store bags covered and dry. The manufacturer states it can be stored for up to twelve months when protected from moisture.

How to Apply
- Measure the mix ratio: follow the lime content called for by the mortar or render mix design.
- Combine dry ingredients: mix the lime with cement and sand thoroughly before adding water.
- Add water gradually: mix to a workable, easily spreadable consistency.
- Apply within working time: use before the mix begins to set.
- Store sealed and dry: keep the bag closed and away from moisture between uses.
Important Notes
- Hydrated lime is strongly alkaline and can burn skin and eyes. Wear gloves, eye protection and a P2 mask, avoid breathing dust, wash it off skin promptly and rinse eyes with water immediately if splashed. See the Safe Work Australia guidance and the product safety data sheet.
- Usually blended into mortar or render rather than used as a stand-alone binder.
- Keep sealed and dry in storage.
