Australian Builders Concrete Mix is a ready-to-use blend of sand, cement and aggregate for concreting jobs too small for a truck. Add water, mix, place and finish, then keep the concrete damp while it cures. Suited to paths, garden borders, stepping stones, light foundations and fixing fence, pergola and decking posts. About 100 bags make one cubic metre. 20kg bag.

Description

Australian Builders Concrete Mix is a dry mix of cement, 7-10mm aggregate and sand for non-structural concrete work where no special requirement is specified. Just add water: the cement, sand and aggregate are already proportioned in the bag.

It suits paths, mower strips, garden borders, stepping stones, light foundations and fixing fence, pergola and decking posts. The product data sheet gives a typical compressive strength of more than 25 MPa at 28 days, tested to AS 1012.9.

As a guide, use about 2.4 litres of clean water per 20kg bag, and about 100 x 20kg bags make 1m³ of concrete. Store bags dry and use them within the shelf life printed on the bag (from date of manufacture). Pickup from our Keilor East yard.

Where to Use

  • Pathways and mower strips
  • Garden borders and stepping stones
  • Fence, pergola, decking and clothesline posts
  • Light foundations and small non-structural slabs

How to Apply

  1. Prepare the area: excavate and form up the area to the required depth.
  2. Empty the bag: into a wheelbarrow, mixer or onto a smooth, strong surface.
  3. Add water gradually: about 2.4 litres per 20kg bag, using the minimum needed for a workable mix.
  4. Place and finish: use the concrete immediately after mixing, and do the smooth finish after the initial set.
  5. Cure: keep the concrete moist under plastic sheeting or hessian; the first week matters most.

Important Notes

  • Wet cement is alkaline and can burn skin and eyes. Wear gloves, eye protection and a P2 mask, avoid breathing dust when opening or mixing, and wash it off skin promptly. See the Safe Work Australia guidance on cement and silica dust.
  • Cement, sand and aggregate contain crystalline silica. Keep the material damp where you can, avoid breathing the dust, and wear a P2 mask if it is dry and dusty.
  • For non-structural work. Use a mix specified to the required strength for structural work.
  • Use within the shelf life printed on the bag (from date of manufacture), and store in dry conditions.
  • Mix only what can be placed before the concrete begins to set.
  • Pickup only from our Keilor East yard.

Frequently asked questions

What is Concrete Mix used for?

Non-structural jobs such as pathways, mower strips, garden borders, stepping stones, light foundations and fixing fence, pergola, decking and clothesline posts.

How much Concrete Mix do I need?

As a rough guide, about 100 x 20kg bags make 1 cubic metre of concrete, so smaller jobs can be estimated from that ratio.

How long does it last in storage?

Use it within the shelf life printed on the bag, counted from the date of manufacture, and store it somewhere dry in the meantime.
