Description
Pine Bark 20mm is a natural, undyed pine bark mulch chipped to a coarse 20mm grade. The larger pieces set it apart from the 10mm grade: they sit more openly, so the layer stays loose and free-draining, and each piece takes longer to break down. That makes 20mm the better choice for open beds, tree rings and shrub borders where a chunkier, more textured finish suits the planting and where you would rather top up less often.
Like any bark mulch, it shades the soil surface, slows evaporation between waterings and makes it harder for weed seedlings to establish. As it slowly breaks down it adds organic matter to the soil beneath. It is supplied loose by the cubic metre for pickup from Keilor East, so a trailer load can be matched to the bed area rather than bought bag by bag.

Where to Use
- Open garden beds with larger shrubs and established plantings
- Tree rings and orchard rows
- Native and woodland-style gardens wanting a natural, textured finish
- Sloping beds where a coarse bark stays put better than a fine one
- Beds where you want to top up less often
How to Apply
- Prepare the bed: remove weeds and water the soil first; mulch holds moisture in, it does not add it.
- Spread to 50 to 75mm: rake to an even depth across the whole bed rather than piling it around individual plants.
- Keep clear of stems: leave a gap of a few centimetres around trunks and stems so bark is not held against them.
- Water lightly: a light watering settles the layer in place.
- Check yearly: top up where the layer has thinned; coarse bark usually needs this less often than a fine mulch.
Important Notes
- Coarse bark is light: a cubic metre weighs roughly 300 to 400 kg, so most box trailers can take a full load.
- For a fine, smooth finish in cottage beds or around small plants, Pine Bark 10mm or Cottage Bark 10mm is the better fit.
- Colour is natural and will weather to a softer grey-brown over time; that is normal for an undyed bark.
- Pickup only from our Keilor East yard (Melbourne). Sold loose by the cubic metre in quarter-m3 steps; part loads of a quarter, half and three-quarter cubic metre are available.
- Bring a trailer or ute with a load rating suited to the quantity ordered.
