Description
The Duracote flush door from Corinthian is a plain external door for openings that do not need a feature entrance: back doors, laundries and side entries under cover. A hollow core keeps the door light to handle and hang, and the smooth Duracote face is ready for paint. Corinthian’s other flush designs are shown in its flush door collection.
It comes in the standard 2040 x 820mm door size in two thicknesses, 35mm and 40mm, so it can replace an existing door of the same size and thickness without altering the frame. Like every external timber door, how well it performs and how long it lasts depends on three things Corinthian sets out in its guides: sealing every face and edge before hanging, choosing a light paint colour, and installing it under adequate overhead protection.

Weather Protection
Corinthian’s overhead protection guide, under the Documents tab, sets the minimum depth of an awning or eave by climate zone and by the direction the door faces, measured against the height from the base of the door to the underside of the awning. The protection should be at least as wide as the door frame. Doors facing west generally need the deepest cover, and Corinthian’s warranty does not cover doors fully exposed to the weather.
Where to Use
- Back and side doors under a verandah or deep eave
- Laundry doors with a covered entry
- Studios and outbuildings with a covered entry
- Replacement of a worn flush door of the same size and thickness
For a door between a garage and the house, check with your building surveyor whether the National Construction Code requires a fire-rated or self-closing door.
How to Install
- Measure: check the opening height, width, thickness and squareness, allowing about 3mm at the top and sides and 5mm at the bottom.
- Trim: plane to fit within the trimming allowance, and find the lock block before cutting hinge check-outs.
- Trial fit: fit at least three 89mm hinges and check the door swings freely, then remove it.
- Seal and paint: apply two coats of exterior paint or sealer to both faces and all edges, including the top, bottom and hinge check-outs, in the same colour on all six sides.
- Hang: re-hang the door, fit the lockset to the hardware maker’s instructions, and add flashing and weather stripping where the door is exposed to weather.
Important Notes
- Pickup only from our Keilor East yard.
- Corinthian’s warranty excludes doors fully exposed to the weather and doors not sealed on all faces and edges.
- Corinthian recommends light reflective colours (LRV above 50) for sun-exposed doors; dark colours absorb heat and can cause warping.
- Paint hollow core doors in flat, satin or semi-gloss finishes; high gloss can show the internal frame through the skin.
- Store doors flat, off the floor and in a dry covered area until finished.
